I just bought a bottle of calcium pills, and with the recommended dose, you end up taking in 120% of your daily value of calcium. This might sound like a stupid question, but is this safe? I have heard that with certain supps and vitamins, there can be too much of a good thing- Is this true? I don' t think it' s the case with the calcium, but it made me think that it' d be nice to have a list of things to look out for- I know there are people here who know a lot about nutrition and supplementation, so if you can think of anything we should be taking, but at the same time being careful of how much we take, please post!

120% is not enough to actually do any real harm to you unless you already have some condition or predisposition towards some condition. However, if you took upwards of 300% or sometimes even more is required depending on the person you could end up with kidney stones or gaul stones and that would suck! I had a friend who had to piss one out in high school and I can tell you, he was not a happy camper. With what you are taking though you will be fine...also remember not to take Zinc or Magnesium when taking the calcium because the two metals block absorbsion. Hope that helps.

Did a bit of research... Here' s the general rules of thumb (my thumb that is): Avoid: Mega doses of anything.. (5000%+) Large does of Vitamin C (mega.. 10,000 IU and such) Any fat soluable vitamins in huge amounts (water won' t flush them) Large doses of the B Vitamin family 120% and such is not even something to worry about. I am referring to very large dosages daily of particular minerals and vitamins.

Thanks for the info- I didn' t think 120% of the calcium would be too much, since there were higher doses available. It just got me thinking about that other stuff- I don' t think I' ll be taking any mega doses of anything anytime soon, the idea of pissing rocks doesn' t appeal to me either.
