i need some help to decide if im doing this right. on my chest i am currently doing about 6 different excercises/machines per workout, ( i know everything about the reps, 10 then rest etc ) on biceps i am currently doing 2 machines/excercises BUT i am still performing to my maximum performance eg. 10 reps then cant do more what i want to know is if there would be a major difference between the bicep and chest seeing as im doing triple machines/excercises does that matter? or how you do it? thx for any help

First, what is your goal bulk/more muscle, lose fat, maintain general physique??? Where are you now and how long have you been training? Then the answer can be much better. The short answer is that the chest is a bigger muscle than biceps and can generally take more workload. The bigger muscles like back, chest, Quadriceps (leg) can require more work to fully tax them In the case of the back and chest, these muscles work in multiple angles and so this requires multiple approaches to work fully. You also asked this at the end of another post: quote:
is protein shake enough? i have 2-3 per day and that must add another 60+g of protein ( 1 pint each glass), i read somewhere that you must drink your pounds in body weight with protein No. The protein shake is not enough. The body needs protein but it also needs carbohydrates and fat. Each of us needs these things in different amounts depending on many factors. The ideal is not to DRINK your protein but to consume your protein from quality food sources. Your shake can be used to help get enough in your diet or to get protein quickly after training. Too much protein (in excess of twice recommended amounts) is an issue as it can lead to dehydration, slower metabolism, calcium loss, and slow muscle growth. Depends on your goals but if you want to gain muscle and bulk..then you need to be eating more calories than you burn. Typical healthy training diets for muscle growth and fat loss are in the range of: Protein-15-30%, Carbohydrates-40-75%, Fat-10-30%

Well then I would say that the shake will not help you as much as food. The shakes are predigested and quickly assimilated...thats great except for you, who's body uses food very quickly and so you need your food to linger a while. Anyway..on the chest..you need to shock it to get growth. If you do the same thing week after week...you get nada. That goes for all your routines! And you need to work to failure with a good spotter (or on machine/smith rack) If you want the size, you need to increase your calories to about 500 above your maintenance. If you are a classic ectomorph (fast responsive metabolism) your body will try to keep up with your eating for a while...so every week you have to check to see if you have added a pound of muscle, if not increase the calories...go a week ...check agian...as soon as you are gaining...stick there until you stop gaining and repeat! Try adding a little good fat to your diet. Time to get big!

OK thats tough. Lots of processed sugar. I heard a lot of groans in the background. No wonder you can eat and eat...no food. Van Damme's wife Sharon and I use to train in the same gym. She is a fitness model so she trains and eats hard...and she said Van Damme trains his ass off and eats totally healthy. So if you want to be like him...start to think about how you can train smart like him. I like that you eat often. That is a good start! Vegetables and fruits are where we get fiber and minerals, and vitamins to support the growth of musclce and fat burning Rice, potato, pasta, etc this is where we get the energy to build muscle and train hard. Protein is what rebuilds what we destroy in the gym! By the way...where is the meat? Do you like beans...like refried, pinto...burrito/taco style? How about fruit? Apples, strawberries, oranges, bananas, melons... What veggies do you like? Peppers, zuccini, green beans... How about... Celery and almond butter? The protein shakes might help, but you need some other nutrition to get the most out of the training! quote:

If I were your trainer and nutrition consultant I would want to revamp your diet entirely. With your diet, I worry about some long-term health issues. I think you need some whole food and fiber, less sugar and less fried food...and less pre-prepared food. I would add as many different colored veggies into your diet as you could deal with. Served uncooked and fresh if possible...Carrots, celery, sweet red peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, lettuce I would want to add a baked lean protein in place of the eve pizza, mcnugget meal I would want to get clean protein, whole food and whole carb/grain products into each meal But that is not what you asked and I will try to answer your question. Take a multivitamin. Things to add: How about a piece of fresh fruit at breakfast. Apple, banana, berries...what ever is in season and fresh. Adds about 120 calories mostly carbs and fiber For your 11am meal, how about a glass of milk? Adds about 150 calories protein and carbs For 6pm meal I would add a whole food or other carb Potato, sweet potato, rice... Adds about 275 calories of mostly carbs You could also add things to your shakes to "beef" em up. What type of shake are you using? How do you prepare them?

also what foods can give me more vitamins and minerals Vegetables are the richest in vits and minerals followed by fruits. I would still recommend a multivitamin. Probably you should search through the nutrition section and look at some of the diets listed. If you try to ditch the rubbish...there are withdrawels from sugar and from some of the artificial ingredients...so be aware of that. You might want to take it in steps. Replace the bars with fruits and nuts and maybe with healthy meal replacement bars. Have a vegetable with every meal. Carrot sticks and celery sticks for the on-the-go meals. Sit down and start to work out a healthier meal plan. Write out meal by meal what you now eat...then start replacing the items with healthier items like I suggest throughout this thread. Plan ahead. Shop ahead. Use your head! Remember, this is your life...how do you want it to go?

No, its a good question. Insulin resistance builds up slowly over time. Disease does not happen over night. There are many factors that go into these things and perhaps you are fortunate not to have other precursors. Another guy I know with a similar diet to yours was just saying the same thing the other day- he's 19. He lifts, wrestles, plays other sports, he is a brute. Then he suddenly had to be rushed to the hospital. He almost died. He now has insulin dependant diabetes. His body can no longer produce insulin. So he has to check his blood glucose levels all the time, give himself shots... While I don't wish these things on you, and I hope your genetics can resist these trends...non-the-less...the effects of eating a sub minimal nutrition diet have been well observed and documented. You can wait and see if anything goes wrong, or you can change now and avoid the nonsense that comes of it. When things go bad, I always hear people say, "I wish I had listend to you started earlier." My friend said that. It is your life. You educate yourself, and you make your decisions. Most people my age have not so good health and vitality. I have not seen a doctor in over 20 years for any ailments. Ask Old Navy, the 67 year old competitive bodybuilder on this site how it was for him...how it is now having the vitality and health he has now. I hear your resistance. If you are getting the results you want from your training with your current diet...things are maybe acceptable, if you want something more, you have to do something different.
