whenever i work my chest it usually takes me 3 - 4 days for a full recovory, is this a normal thing?

I find myself doing nothing during this period of time becaues i am afraid i might injure myself if my chest was not up to the challenge. Am i wrong about this? I mean, can i work my back 1- 2 days after my chest?

for example: i cant do lat pull downs if my chest is still sore right?

sure you can work your back the day after you work your chest. they are 2 totally different muscles. the only thing you have to worry about is giving your chest enough rest before you directly hit it again with another chest workout. give it at least 4 days of rest but no more than 6. the same goes for every muscle actually.

the muscles i dont like working out right after the other is triceps and chest. i always wait 2 days after a tricep work out to do my chest. i dont like sore triceps when benching. some people might say the same for biceps and back. but like i said before chest and back dont really effect each other.

I train five days a week and work no more than two body parts each day. My workouts last 45 minutes. I add 15-20 minutes of cardio three days a week. This plan allows my muscle groups to rest between workouts:

Monday- Back and Biceps
Tuesday- Legs and Calves
Wednesday-Chest and Triceps
Thursday-Legs and Calves
Friday- Shoulders and Biceps

The reason I do legs, calves and biceps twice each week is because I'm looking to grow those body parts. My back, chest and triceps are fine.

whenever i work my shoulders 2 days after my chest theres always a slight discomfort remaining from my chest workout. This discomfort usually stops me from doing any further exercise for fear of straining myself.

ive been going to the gym for 9 - 10 months now and i find myself frustrated because im not really getting any bigger or stronger, only leaner :(

my routine:

3 x a week (or more if i can)

1st:
chest - incline and leveled
flies
abs
triceps

2nd:
back - upper, lower, and traps
biceps
abs

3rd:
shoulders
abs

wheenever i can add more frequency to my going to the gym i usually work some of my legs. Theyre pretty big already because im a basketball player so im not really prioritizing them.

Heres the thing, when i started going to the gym i was pressing 55 lbs im now at max 85 lbs and it seems that im not going anywhere. Ive been maxing 85 - 90 for around 3 months now :(

When I first started working out and didn't know anything, I used to bench every day. I would be sore the next day and still bench. The thing is I only did flat bench press and I believe I only did 3 sets each day and it wasn't really heavy weight. It was almost equivilent to just doing push-ups every day.

dont work your muscles when they are still sore.
It takes on average 7days for a muscle to fully recover, some people more some less. do every muscle intesley once a week.

Do you mean you're doing that routine 3 times a week? Thats part of the problem, there. You're getting leaner, because you're burning more calories by working out, but you're not getting bigger/stronger because you're most likely not giving yourself enough time to rest between workouts.
