A new post button would be nice so we can keep up with what is new.

We already have a few options on the homepage- Posts since last visit, today's posts, etc.

Yep they are good features.
 
Perhaps what might be better is a 'new replies to my posts' button
 
That would bring up any threads that you have posted in that have new posts since you last read them...
 
A good feature I have used in other non-BB forums

@draper yeah i get annoyed  with clickin on my name to see my recent posts and then checking each for replies
