im looking for a good cookbook for my girlfriend... something that is focused on healthy living and food for a lean body. I would have no problem with it having a general nutrition section in it either (what type of food to prepare before and after workouts and other meals throughout the day) this would be nice so she can read for herself what to eat instead of me personally telling her what to do all the time. if anyone has any good suggestions please let me know. something i could find at borders or barnes and noble would be nice so i could look it over first but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Can't recommend a book exactly like that, except Berardi's "Precision Nutrition" but the accompanying "cook book" isn't much and has errors.  It's also very expensive.

I like the services (of course, they cost), that prescribe my diet for me.  A bunch can be found at www.ediets.com.  They give menus and recipes, as well as shopping lists.  They adjust to your preferences and of course, calorie requirements.  I like the Mediterranean Diet a lot (very tasty, if very tomato-y--four eatings a day), and the BFL one (6 eatings a day).  They have some "stupid" diets there (the blood type diet?  pleez), too, so caveat emptor.

A general cookbook that has all kinds of great background information and shopping information is Bittman's (I think that's how you spell his name) How to Cook Everything (and he isn't kidding).  The recipes are mostly ok, not spectacular though, but it is an excellent reference to have around, especially if you've ever wondered how to shop for a pomengranate! :)
