It's all about a caloric deficit and whichever "method" is the best to lose 2-3 inches would pretty much come up to your personal opinion. For instance this caloric defecit could be achieved by adding more cardio in, by eating less, changing up your weightlifting routine or any of the following combinations. The one thing that is a given though is that you should try to aim for a caloric deficit of 500-1000 calories. If you go into to far of a deficit your body may very will go into starvation mode and you will lose your muscle wheras on the other hand if you go to low you just won't lose any weight or see an definite difference in a decent amount of time. One suggestion i can give for sure though is to check out the keto diet. There has been a lot of posts recently on this forum about it and there definently seems to be results. Go check it out.
