need help gaining weight! - Wednesday, March 21, 2007 7:28 PM ( #1 )
I'm 16, 150 lbs, and 5'11''. My stats even sound skinny. I'm tired of eating between 3500 and 5000 calories a day, working out, and hardly ever gaining any weight. Someone please help me out here.

thats an insane amount of calories. are you doing a ton of cardio, or circet training? have you ever tried a "weight gainer?"

anyways you might want to see a doctor and get your thyroid tested, that effects your matablism and if its hyperactive then you won't be able to gain weight. you might also want to get tested for tape worms.

btw, i have simlar stats and i'm really skinny too. i want to gain like 10lbs of muscle and say cut, however both my parents were extremly skinny at my age, so for me is part gentics. i also do alot of cardio(dance) but i eat 5-6 meals a day and take protien suplments(~90grams a day, more when i work out hard, less on my off days)

if your really having trouble gaining wieght than u should limit all cardio and up the calories. 5000 is alot but gaining wieght is a simple concept, u take in more calories than u burn. it seems like ur like my brother and can eat an incredible amount of food without gaining wieght but thats because u burn even more than u take in so up the calories. also make sure ur eating enough protein and doing effective workouts with enough rest in between

you should just eat stuff that contains alot of calories but is not too filling, so that way you can get more of it in your stomach, and sleep as much as you can. i am only about 5' 4" and weigh 120 but i am trying to gain weight it's just hard since i hardly feel hungry at all. i have been taking this shake though you might want to try it's two scoops of protein, 1 tablespoon of peanutbutter and half a cup of oats. i do it once or twice a day and i'm hoping it's bulking me up. good luck gaining weight you can do it.

How many times per day do you eat? The most effective way I has so far in gaining weight (that includes fat also) was to overeat a lot, when I overeat I know I'm full then I take an hour or two rest by sitting on my pc and then do whatever you want, I ate 3 times a day like that or whenever I felt like I don't have food in my stomach anymore. Try eating 5 times a day I've tried it once it was good but I can't keep it up with school interferring and eat foods that are less liquid and more of chunk foods I'm not if thats what its called.
Its not what you know, its what you can do that counts!

Welcome to water.

To the original poster - It might be a good idea to journal your diet. You'd be suprised at what few calories you may be consuming. 5000kcal is unreal maintenance for 150lbs even with lightening metabolism.

wow homeboy, 5000 calories a day is alot even if you are skinny, hell i am skinny and i eat about 3000 calories a day, the key is eat HEALTHY, that means no more mcdonalds, chicken wings, or soda. Instead try Skinless chicken breast, a cup of brown rice and gallon of water a day
basket ball is the only sport in witch you can bounce a ball in, foot ball thats a fumble, you kick ball in soccer, hockey...well if you bounce a ball in hockey thats an automatic streiod test

Between 3500 and 5000 calories is a big range. To me personally I think you don't have a rough estimate of how much you eat. If you are consuming 5000 calories a day, and not gaining weight, then there much be something seriously wrong, or you are working out hours a day, which probably isn't the case. Post us your diet first. I believe your probably consuming much less than what you are thinking you consume.

Wait, I just read that you are gaining weight, but hardly any. How much is hardly any?

What it sounds like to me is that your foods may be too low in their Glycogen Index. You may also want to try a protein shake before and after your workout session. Also, skip the McDonalds.
