hello newbie here! i started working out in aug 03' hired pt twice week 8 wks. we added inch on forearms, inch on bis, two and three quarters on chest lowered BF from 13.8 to 8.9% i only weigh in at whopping 133lbs i honestly work out really hard five days a week 110% my short term goal is to weigh 140 and be shredded how long should, or does it usually take for muscles to grow! i know ever Body grows dif. but i would just like to set my mind now if its going to take a year, rather than expect it in three months and be let down and discouraged.

Sounds like your making some good progress. If you commit yourself to a bulking phase, you could gain 7 pounds in no time, we're talking like a month or two. Eat clean, and eat alot, read some of the other threads on bulking. Then, if you wanna get shredded, you go on a cutting phase you get your bodyfat back down under 10%. Sounds like your already pretty lean so you could afford to go on a bulking phase and put on some mass. Good luck, and remember, it's the short term goals that keep you going. Why don't you start by posting your current training routine and diet (most importantly, calories/day)

2600 is probably sufficient to put on some mass at 133 lbs. If your not gaining weight after about 2 weeks on that diet, I'd up the calories. It's important get a good idea as to what's in what your eating so you know how to adjust from there. As far as your training goes, I'd recommend working out each muscle group once a week and getting alot of rest. When your bulking, I'd recommending AT LEAST 2 (I think 3 is optimal) days of complete rest per week. Alot of this is also learning what works for you over a long period of time, but as most people would recommend for bulking, you want to lift pretty heavy and if your gonna lift heavy, you want alot of time to rest. Therefore you can cut out a workout or two and just rest. Good luck.

me and you sound like we're in the same boat. I'm only 5'4 and weigh 138lbs. I've been trying to bulk for the past month and it's slowly getting up there. I used to work out all the time mixing cardio with high reps weight training before I realized that I needed to get bigger before going into a cutting phase. So I would recommend that you eat, rest, and lift heavy...really heavy to the point where you can only lift the weight 6 times.

I fall somwhere between 16-20% BF Lifting for almost 4 years now. Put on over 60lbs of lean muscle in about 1.5 years
