started lifting in 1992 at 20 years old: 125lbs, 5% bodyfat, 12" arms, 10" calves, 34" chest. classic ectomorph. best i ever got was 180lbs, 10% bodyfat, 15" arms and calves, 40" chest. then training to a backslide. got up to 200lbs at 26% bodyfat with a 40" waist. ever saw a fat ectomorph? it ain't pretty!!!! lost that weight and got down to 160lbs at 15% bodyfat. as of a couple of weeks ago: 172lbs, 14.5% bodyfat, 14" arms and calves and a 38.75" chest. this is from 1992. Nice quads! I definitely see major differences between the pics, nice work. Did your workout routines change at all from when you were trying to gain the weight and lose it? Why'd your training go downhill? I look forward to seeing your results as this year goes by.

I can see that you took legs seriously. There's a HUGE difference there. I bet a lot of your weight is in those legs. The coolest thing is, you now are above 75% of the people in my gym. I swear, only about 5 of us work legs. The rest are strictly chest guys. Awesome stats as well. That picture reminded me a lot of myself. Bare bones and no fat. You certainly made some vast improvements in the leg category. Well if your training did go downhill, I'm sure there's enough expertise here to help you figure out where the right path might be again. I assume you do squats.. free weights in a cage??

thanks for the responses guys. by 1998 i had reached my goals. i also got married, bought a home, got a promotion at work. training was starting to become hit and miss. i decided to take a 4 week break. well, that 4 weeks became 6 months. i lost a little size and gained some around the waist. then when i started up again, i had no focus. i was just going through the motions. and to make it worse i was still on a weight gain diet. being an ectomorph, i dont have to try that hard to lose weight. just cut carbs and added cardio and kept training hard. i'm gonna spend the rest of this year working on my bodyfat %. i may make my goal for next year to get back to my old stats: 180lbs, 10% bodyfat but that would be shooting for the moon. i train at home, its squats b/w some saw horses. OLD SCHOOL!!!

As an ectomorph, 10% body fat is obtainable. I had that and lower but then again, I was probably 155 lbs. Now at 192 lbs, I'm trying to get to 12%. I've been doing cardio and it's working. I feel just as strong but I notice I'm losing some fat around the mid-section. Thanks for the good write up on weight gain. I need to point more people in that direction.

wow i just wanted to tell you that your a huge amount of motivation for an ectomorph like me. Seriously I couldn't literally even imagine having such a drastic change from ectomorph to like heman!! Thanks for the motivation, i think im gonna pull off an abear! Btw tho, do you work out your calves alot? It doesn't look as if you worked out your calves as hard as you did your ummm thighs (i dont know the exact term for them im new to bodybuilding). But still great improvement keep it up!

thanks bro. actually, i'm trying to keep things in proportion (neck, biceps, calves). right now my neck is 15" and both my arms and calves are 14". its not easy to get size on my long arms so i'm just mainly trying to keep pace with my calves. symmety impresses me more than pure size. and i responded to your post in the nutrition forum.
