minimizing bloat - Sunday, June 29, 2008 11:28 AM
what can you do to minimize bloat during a bulk??

Ive discovered if theres one thing i hate about bodybuilding, its bulking and what the excess carbs do to your waist.  I look great on low carb days, high carb days, not so much, and when I bulk, my waist is a good 4 inches bigger than when im cutting, not because of the amount of fat im carrying, just water.

I know eating less salt is good...

Bulking effing blows

Its for this reason only that i dont want to start bulking again until september.

im considering keto for a bulk, what do you guys think? I know its probably not the best idea since im an ecto and supposed to be eating more carbs.  Hate carbs... FJKEDSAFLKDS

well you dont necessarily need high carbs during a bulk but to be honest, ive learned to deal with it, yea it sucks but in the end its worth it.  ::shrugs::

Suck it up and do it.

We've all been there.  I'm there right now actually.

Keto is a bad idea IMO

im not gonna deal with it this summer...Ill either have to continue to cut, maintain, or bulk on a keto diet lol.  Theres just too much shirtless time in the summer.

What kind of gains do you think i could make eating 4k cals of almost all protein and fat?? Seems like a crazy idea to me, but idk.  Id probably be eating a bunch of carbs a few hours leading up to my workout but thats it.

Decrease your sodium intake.

also something id like to point out, i cant say that im sure i ever gained an ounce of fat during my 8 month bulk.  I sure looked fatter, but basically 3 days after i started cutting for the first time i looked more ripped than i did before i started bulking which basically means its just the water and i actually leaned out a bit. All this while i was eating tons and tons of not crap, but not the cleanest of foods, and plenty of burger king / wendys mixed in.  I think i am going to try a very low carb bulk and eat tons of protein and peanut butter.  Carbs on lifting days just so i have the energy to lift good numbers.

I would recommend at least doing something like a 40/30/30 c/p/f split, or some other type of maintenance-style diet just with more cals.

I don't think you'll have enough energy to make the gains you could if you had more carbs.

Thats just me tho.

ive been doing it durring my cut fairly well.  Im thinkin of using the same ratios i am now just more calories worth.  My energy has been great.

im not really into planning out calories/ratios exactly but on a lifting day id say i get about 25-35% carbs and its all in the morning before i lift.  On off days its probably more like 15-20%.  Again just a quick approximation, close but not exactly

that just makes me hate u more

a few things....i'm surprised ur inch grows 4 inches, thats a huge amount. are both measurements first thing in the morning?

also u said u have high carb and low carb days so i assume ur carb cycling during ur bulk?

about keto, i dont think theres anything necessarily wrong with a keto bulk, some people can add weight while staying leaner with only have carbs peri-workout, so like a tkd. I've also seen good bulk results with a ckd.   for u however, i wouldnt recommend it. U have crazy genetics and you'd just be holding urself back by not eating lots of carbs, plus i think you'd find it extremely difficult to eat enough calories on a keto diet and it would probably hurt ur social like if u plan on going to wendys and other places like that.

ive only carb cycled for the past month on my cut.  Just for the summer i wouldnt care if it would slow my growth as long as im not a bloated ogre.

Also i dont know what a tkd or ckd are.

Itd be fine going to places like wendys etc.  ive done it for the past month and never get anything besides a salad or water.  Doesnt bother me.

Try carb cycling in weekly intervals, I commented in your journal about it.
