mid-night protein

I drink a scoop of casein protein powder every night (with a bit of oatmeal), just before getting around 8 hours of sleep (9 on weekends). I've read this and that about bodybuilders setting their alarms so they can wake up and eat to break the fast, etc... It all seems a little ridiculous, and I guess some people tend to think it's counterproductive to disrupt sleep like that. But I wake up to take a leak once or twice anyway, as I assume most of you do as well. So my question is... Since I'm up anyway.. would it do any good to gulp a little more protein after a mid-night trip to the bathroom, to ensure there's a steady supply of amino acids in my bloodstream? Do any of you do this?

:D overkill! IMHO that is. just eat sleep workout normally and u should be fine. pro bodybuilder opinions and info on their routines are 99% crap from what I seen so far. they are also humans like you and me.

If you are worried about your body having protein at night then just get some casein protein and make a shake before you go to bed. It digests much slower than whey

Do any of you do this? The Casein should get you through til morning. Unless your light on the bodyweight, I would not eat oatmeal (carbs) before bed. Best when you first wake to pound down the oatmeal

Yeah I figured it was probably overkill. I was just thinking, it wouldn't be TOO much trouble to add a little shake, but I'll stop worrying about it. As for the oatmeal... I'm not really sure why I have it at night. I vaguely recall that someone said it's not a bad idea to have a few complex carbs before bed. I'm only 152 at 6'0" (up from 140!), so I guess I'm just doing whatever I can to gain. But if all I stand to gain from the oatmeal is fat... maybe it should be cut.

When I wake up to take my middle of the night pisses, at least once sometimes twice, I usually am hungry. I've thought about downing something to ease the hungry stomach, but I haven't really done it, one time ate a spoon of peanut butter. Shaking up some protein takes too much mental power I might struggle in the middle of the night. Usually I jsut got back to sleep cause I assume that is more beneficial anyways.

Do any of you do this? A lot of people do this. My buddy that competes just keeps one in the fridge and if he wakes up, he drinks it. I don't usually wake up during the night because I try and limit fluid intake a few hours before I go to bed. If it won't disrupt your sleep then go for it otherwise don't worry about.
