Man, I'm back to good hard lifting 5+ days a week, and my appetite is IMMENSE! I'm trying to limit what I eat still, of course, but it sure isn't easy. The good news is both me and my workout partner are making measurable progress on our lifts each session again. I assume if I'm building strength I must be adding muscle?

I've got a few weeks to go. Maybe it just means I'm eating too much, or maybe I'm doing the "gain muscle, lose fat at the same time, but SLOWLY" thing

It's mostly after 3 days of solid lifting, so much of my body is sore it just gets hard to sleep or concentrate. I have had to start popping Tylenol. Right now my chest, shoulders, and back are sore, and I'm hungry every couple of hours. It'd be great if I were bulking, but like you, I'm NOT. But, another week or two of this and it'll get better, at least that's how it's always worked in the past. It's tempting to extend out my cutting phase until I can see my abs, but considering I've acheived most of my goal for this round, I should probably stick with my long term plan, which has me buliking from June 1 to November or December, then cutting until I get down to the 7-10% bodyfat needed to see my abs...

Woo hoo! 189.4 lbs! Change of strategy, I'm extending my cutting cycle for a couple more months, I want to get down to 7-10% bodyfat this round and see my abs before my mext bulk cycle.

Ok, I'm trying it. Doing a totally ketogenic diet a few years ago made me nuts (I did it for 5 days, lost 11 lbs, and gained back 5 in sugar and water right away. So I dropped 6 lbs in 5 days. No idea how much of that was fat and how much was muscle though, although I was getting plenty of protein and working out good and hard during the diet.) Carb cycling seems like it would be much less stressful on my system. I know I'm not supposed to weigh daily, but the last 24 hours I've dropped 2 1/2 lbs (water and glycogen obviously).

Pretty much following Twin Peak's system, I can't be sure what "my needs" are until I see how "by the book" works for me. So far my weight seems to be fluctuating as I'd expect, I dropped 2.5 lbs after the first (no-carb) day (mostly water), and my weight is aobut the same after the second day (low-carb). Today I'm eating high-carb, so I expect I'll put on a couple of pounds by tomorrow morning. The system IS making me eat a lot more fiberous vegetables I notice, and that's got to be good for ANY diet.

Looks like all you have done is play around with your glycogen stores so far. Should be interesting to see what happens after a full week. Have you been measuring your body fat for this new diet as well?

First, not much is going to happen in 3 days. Second, if I am reading that correctly, you are down 1.5 pounds in three days, which is a ton of weight! If you mean that overall you are up one pound after 3 days, then yeah, I'd say you filled glycogen stores nicely.

Yes, all I was expecting so far was to watch my glycogen/water weight to flucturate, although I haven't gained back as much as I exected on my high carb day. My scale is showing the lowest BF mesurements so far, 23% (And I KNOW that much higher than the real number), but of course it's not accurate enough to dissect a 1 1/2 lb weight loss into water, sugar, fat, and muscle. However it's possible I've lost a pound of fat in three days, which would be a good healthy loss rate.

Ok, daily fluctuations aside, I have dropped about 2 lbs in the last week doing carb cycling, and without being hungry. My #1 concern is sparing my muscle though, and I only have at MOST another 10 lbs to lose before I dip below 10% bodyfat. I am shooting for maximum "ripped" in about 2 months, so I have pleanty of time to work with. Assuming I can lose 2 lbs a week without losing muscle, I'll have to give carb cycling a big THUMBS UP!

14 weeks, 12 lbs lost, muscle strength and measurements stable... not too shabby! Carb cycling makes me drop weight pretty fast, maybe faster than I feel comfortable with. I lost weight really fast when I tried going no-carb for a week too though (5 days, 11 lbs: 5 of water, 6 of not water). Although somehow I thought losing weight "too fast" wasn't going to be a problem after dropping 10 lbs through regular dieting. I've never been this lean. I'm also out of the gym for at least a week, my joints and tendons are whining about the abuse I've been putting them through, so I'm giving them time to heal.

I saw a physcial therapist today. It turns out after almost a year of nagging my workout partner for not doing a wide enough range of motion, he's been doing it correctly and I've been putting too much strain my joints and connective tissues. It looks like I will be able to do upper body exercises again in a week or so, thankfully!

Good to read that your healing. Are you still following MAX-OT or your own program? Good Luck!
