GODDAMMIT!!!!!!!!!! What ELSE can happen????? My tuesday partner is no longer gonna be hitting the gym that I go to. Granted I was only doing chest with him but I at least knew that I had a WO partner for the one day that I really needed one.

But on a different note: I am now upto 10 days without a single soda or even caffeine. Other than deployments in the military, I have NEVER gone this long without my trusty friend: Coca Cola. Almost fell off the wagon yesterday but got a bottled water instead.

Fell off the wagon at lunch. No big, but MAN did that Coke taste GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!

This was a suck/good/MEGA-SUCK kinda day

The suck:
another 11 hour day, no lunchtime workout

The good
Back
Wide Grip Pull Ups(Assist) - the machine is not even CLOSE on assist so it took me a while to figure out a good assist level, finally I just took a 50lb DB and placed it on the pad, according to the machine that's 70 pounds. Uh-huh.
5x(30),8x(50), 8x(70)
Deadlift
Warmups: 135x10, 135x8, 185x6, 235x3, 275x1
Work sets: 275x6, 275x6, 275x6
Wide Grip Pulldowns
180x8, 190x8, 180x8

The MEGA-SUCK
So get home, and WTF??? Nothing has been shovelled, not even the damn walkway (about 2-3 inches of snow). Gee, great, shovelling snow on back day, wheeeeeee!! So park in the driveway, get out, WTF?? truck starts sliding backwards, my feet slip and the door finishes the fall, knocking me into the wagon, I manage to just pull my right foot back before the front tire slides over it. Did I mention that I'm still in my shorts? Did I also mention that my driveway is about an 8 degree slope??? There goes the wagons passenger side mirror too. This just keeps getting better and better. OK, now I'm REALLY pissed. So I park the truck in the street and walk up to get the shovel. Slip <WHOOMP> down I go, faster than Andrew Golota ever kissed the canvas. My irritation has now reached EPIC proportions. I'm stunned that the snow hasn't melted in a 20 foot circle around me. So I get the damn shovel and start clearing the walkway. Then I grab the salt and start spreading it. Then I move to clearing the driveway. I'm being very careful and just trying to 'plow' the snow down the driveway. Not going too bad until, yep, you guessed, the score is now Paul 0, Driveway 3. I'm surprised at the point that the cops don't show, as I am just freakin yelling up a storm. I finally get the driveway clear and salted. At this point, my already tired low back is absolutely PISSED!!!!! And is hurting big time. So I go in. And actually this is the worst part, my wife asks me 'what was all that noise', at this point I ab-so-freaking-lutely lose it. I'm yelling, I'm cursing. Not my finest hour. This was just an excuse to let loose many years of frustration in a single day. So I'm sitting here pondering WTF to do now? The sad part is that I'm pretty sure that this is a good as my life is gonna get. Not a good thing. I've got a very pissed off spouse, an upset 6yo and me, who really doesn't care much for my life right now (but not in a end my life sort of way). I've been battling depression for the last 7 years and thought that getting into better shape would help me deal with it but so far I seem to be losing ground.

OK, so I head back to do some stiff leg deads and there's this guy, probably about 45-50 or so, getting ready to do some curls in the power rack. <sigh> Ok, that's annoying so I take a mini-break. Then I see him putting a whole FIVE POUNDS on each side and doing like 8 reps max. I was like WTF?? THOU SHALT NOT CURL IN THE POWER RACK!!!!!!!!

Stiff Leg Deadlift
255x8, 255x8, 255x8 my fingers on my left hand kept trying straighten and I almost dropped the weight once. Strange, usually my fingers don't start having issues until about 315 or so.

Not a good start. Get a call from my dad last night saying that he's having trouble breathing and his chest hurts. OHHHHH SH&T. So off to the hospital we go. Turns out it's not his heart but he's in the early stage of Pneumonia, still not good. So he gets to stay a day for evaluation and I get home at about 7am this morning, call work, tell 'em that I need sleep and I will be in around noon.

Get in at around 11, decide screw it I'm not missing my workout.

Wow. I can't believe I missed the life and times of Paul the Ogre. I'm going to have to start bringing popcorn to the computer before logging on. Funny thing is, I'll bet that driveway is laughing its sealcoat off at you right now. If I were you I would go teach it a lesson it won't soon forget. That's just my unsolicited dos coppers. Just here to help my big fat buddy.

Incidentally, what's the radius on that heat zone now?

Once again Nav comes thru with that perfect something. Smile

Well, it seems that on Saturday I aggravated my cervical area around C2-3. The same problem that I had a year ago. I suspect that it was the upright rows that did but I'm not sure. So sleeping has been a real challenge the last couple of days and sneezing is just an exercise in self inflicted agony. It's getting better tho but I still can't rotate my neck to the right to the full range of motion and it's very stiff and sore when I drop my chin to my chest. So I'm not gonna be lifting this week Smile and to top it off I know have a cold. Gee WON-DER-FUL.

I know better than this, I really do.

After a month long hiatus due to a) illness, 2) injury and c) a nice bout with my Bi-Polar illness, I have determined it's time to get back into the gym. So in my oxygen deprived narcosis, I decided to go light and just do the core three lifts: squat, bench, dead

Squat
45x12, 135x10, 185x8, 185x8
Bench
45x12, 135x10, 155x8, 185x6, 205x4, 225x2
Deadlift
135x8, 135x8, 135x8

Let me tell you, that was a SERIOUS error in judgement. I vow to NEVER get as big a case of the dumbass as I did.

Well, I'm back, sort of. This last month or so has been rough to say the least. But the last 3 days have just blown.

Found out last night that a friend of mine was hospitalized for emergency surgery to remove his colon and most of his digestive tract due to cancer. He didn't make it. Sunday I tore my Plantar Fascia from my left heel playing soccer. Monday found out another friend has kidney cancer. And been watching yet ANOTHER friend slowly die due to a nasty disease, Mitochondrial Myopathy. It has been pretty hard to watch him lose almost 60 pounds over the last 2 months, what has been even harder is talking with his dad (my friend is 22 years old). Not to mention stuff that has been happening in my life that pretty much pales in comparison. Just not motivated to do anything much less exercise. Right when I get up the motivation to start, I get hurt. Ah well.

Paul,

With all these life changes, and major upsets, it's not really a surprise you aren't motivated to workout.

My recommendation would just to be "active" and clear your head, take walks and such just to keep moving but until your mind is in a better place and you can concentrate, I think you should take it easy. At least for a couple of weeks.

That's a lot of stuff - bad stuff - going on and it's pretty impossible to concentrate on the task at hand. I've had weeks where I was too stressed out to even concentrate on a weight. But nothing compared to what you just posted.

Taking a break but just moving is probably the best idea. No use in getting injured so bad you have some lifelong nasties following you.

I suggest the most intense workout you have is a brisk walk.

Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen, to our First (and hopefully LAST) Annual 'Get Paul's Lazy Ass to the Gym Day' brought to you by Paul 'Yes I Am A Lazy Ass' Wolf

Well, if you weren't keeping score, Paul's life pretty much went south for awhile and he lost his motivation to do anything. Then he got it back and started running and stretching to get ready for soccer season. Gee, wouldn't you know it, first game of the season, <BAM> partial tear of the Plantar Fascia in his left foot, ouch.

Well it's been 2 weeks of annoying pain and he's decided to just suck it up and get back to the gym.

Monday

Exercise bike for 10 at moderate pace, surprisingly this didn't hurt at all

Nautilus Leg Press (light to start just to make sure my foot was OK with it)
135x12, 185x8, 235x8
Nautilus Leg Curl
110x8, 120x8, 120x8
Nautilus Leg Extension
120x8, 120x8, 120x8
Just to try it out I did one set of DB Squats with 45s, 8 reps, nope not quite a good idea yet.

Paul

Yeah, I've been reading your journal.  As they say, this too shall pass. But until it does it just pisses us off.

Yesterday was just meetings from hell with no chance to hit the gym so today is definately a gym day.

Hang in there Nav!!!!!!
