My opinion might not be what you want to hear but at 13-14 I would rather play some sport outside or be more in my school thing than being in a gym lifting weight. BUT if you still want to lift some weight, start with light weight and concentrate on good form. Don't go heavy, be careful and have someone like your older brother of even your father close to you.

Oh ya I also meant to ask what would be some good exercises to do, I mostly want to get thinner and not have fat on my chest. I weight 120-130 pounds and I am 5’ -5’ 3” and according to my school I am 13% bf and a web site says I am 16.5% bf (???) please help I atleast want to be healthy but adding muscle would be good to because I am going into 8th grade and I get kind of embaresd in gym as it is.

Try having a more proper nutrition, have you parents read our nutrition site if they don't believe what you say about proper nutrition ! Add some cardio, you can run, rollerblade, bike, soccer, basket......anything but for 30-45 minutes 3-4 times a week. Try buying some 5-10-15-20 dumbells and a bench if you really want to start lifting weights. (Canadian Tire offers some nice beginners kit at my place) Ahh I almost forgot...find a bar somewhere where you could do some chin ups ! When you'll be ready, just pop a question on what to do !

Pullups, chinups, dips, pushups (with variations like elevated, diamond, and so on), situps, and very light weights will help you build a good foundation for later. You might want to consult a doctor about anything more than that.
Squat 385, Bench 235, Deadlift 450 @ 181.

I would recommend purchasing a Total Gym or Boflex. With the total gym workout program you can see results within the first two weeks ITS AWSOME

But would that be healthy for a 13 year old or should i wait a year or 2? After all I still need to design a proper diet and add that to a proper exersise plan. So what would be the point of spending 100's of dolars on a machine if it is not healthy for me or is not what I need at the time... or am really messed up in my thinking? p.s. sorry if i sound rude not trying to or any thing just new to forums in genral and not I am not very good at talking with people and such.

No Prob. I'm 14 and my gym has been showing results for me. However, muscles can develop at anytime from a large range for guys. Based on my "personal" experience, i was able at school to start lifting at 13. and my dad had a total gym and i got it out and started using it. The total gym is great for just one or many people in your family. Talk to your parents and they will help you find an answer
