Hi all, ive been reading through some of your teenage threads and ive found it very useful for starting out. Im in a similar situation to ithilsul with the home equipment situation - i think im slightly worse off in terms of proportions, as im 6ft 4 and extremely skinny (especially in legs and arms). I believe that this skinny illusion is due to having small bones ("im not fat im just big boned" joke may not be so wrong) ... i find people with bigger bones look more proportionate, although eating more has had a noticeable affect on my appearance. I cant quote my weight just yet because i only have the measurement in stone (im english) and not in lbs .. im approximately 11/12 stone though (statistic taken from my last weighing about 3 months ago before i had started out, i will check again tomorrow to see if ive gained weight .. or see what usually happens when i come back from uni, is LOSE weight ... ). Ive been doing approximately 3 sets of 10 bench presses at about 70lbs each day (which i have reduced to 4 times a week now ive been reading this forum and reading suggestions about letting the muscles rebuild) ive been told i cant lift as much due to my arms being longer which requires more control and makes the weights heavier due to forces of gravity .. im not sure if this is pure b/s though ..., i thought this was heavy, but reading what mike does, it seems very inadequate, i dont want to overdo it as i 'struggle' with 70lbs after about 8 lifts .. and this has a noticeable affect where my arms start shaking slightly. I lift dumbells at approximately 20-30lbs (30lbs is really pushing it though) ... i find that im stuck at these weights, i havent been able to increase the weights over the last 2 weeks as the muscle hasnt had a noticeable increase in size/mass or strength. My diet is adequate ( but much like any teenager i have junk food ) i eat at least 1 bowl of cereal (fruit and fibre) before i work out, and have some milk whenever i can (although it makes me add weight to my stomach and not to anywhere else), and i still find that i dont add any wait. I do 30 situps 3 times (usually with about a 3 minute break in between) by the end of each set i feel like i want to die. i do these 3 times a week at most (as ive read that stomach muscles rebuild slower?) I was told that doing cardio like walking / running would increase my stamina (which is fine) but ive also been told that it will increase the stomach muscles .. is this a truth or a lie? My main question is .. shall i try increasing the weights even though i cant really manage them and hope for the best or should i try something different like nutrition bars and drinks. Mmh... you should have opened a new thread lol. quote:
as ive read that stomach muscles rebuild slower? Ok, first of all if you beleive stomach muscles rebuild slower why are doing doing them more times a week than any other muscle? Any way your abs rebuild the same way as the rest of your body because they are made of the same muscle. Instead of doing more reps try doing weighted crunches. quote:
I was told that doing cardio like walking / running would increase my stamina (which is fine) but ive also been told that it will increase the stomach muscles .. is this a truth or a lie? It won't increase the size, but it will increase the visibility on them because of the fat loss, but i dont think you have much fat on your body anyway. quote:
i eat at least 1 bowl of cereal What is your diet like? I personnaly beleive that your are not eating enough, but post us up your diet. quote:
shall i try increasing the weights even though i cant really manage them and hope for the best No no no and no. Just cause you can't do them doesn't mean you should risk your form being wrong. Keep doing what weights you can do properly, Leave your ego at the door.

Thanks for the quick reply from both playa and damann, Ok, first of all if you beleive stomach muscles rebuild slower why are doing doing them more times a week than any other muscle? <--- because ive had mixed information from friends, thanks for setting the facts straight, What is your diet like? I personnaly beleive that your are not eating enough, but post us up your diet. <--- Ill post my diet, what would u like the kinds of meals i eat, when i eat, or would u like me to work out the proteins etc of each meal? my standard day includes: 1.) hardly ever eat breakfast (due to not being up in time or not being up for breakfast time). 2.) lunch consists of bread (with some sort of meat and salad) no butter , water, nut bar (usually jordan nut bar) 3.) dinner usually some kind of vegetable, potato (being in the form of chips, roasted, baked or fried), some kind of meat (pork, beef, sausage, bacon etc) and i usually snack through the day with protein bars, milk, chocolate milk, cereal, crisps, plenty of water, - before bed or work out i have a bowl of cereal. (nightly now) i drink about 3-4litres of water a day. if u would like me to post the actual protein informations etc i can do that also. thanks in advance

Okay, I stopped with the bars, tried some chocolate flavored shakes (MUCH better tasting), and they don't cause breakouts. But the protein bars make me break out like mad... on my back and stuff which hurts in weightlifting. Now that I'm in a weightlifting class I'm getting a much better workout, at home I couldn't work my legs and back much, and I think that should make the scale go up a few lbs. Started up creatine again, and I'm gonna try to pack in more protein... i've been getting like 70ish grams in per day, aiming for that 100g. One scoop of the protein shake (20g) + 1 glass of milk should be about 28g, right? So 2 or 3 of those should do the trick with the normal meat-ish stuff I tend to eat for dinner, I hope. I've noticed my metabolism is freakishly fast, If i don't eat stuff my body absorbs it'll go right through me (like mcdonalds :P although recently i've been hoarding out on Subway). But everythings going pretty well, since schools started I've gotten alot of comments on how built I am now :D Thanks for the advice. Edit: Oh, and in this weightlifting class I may not be able to lift as much as everyone else due to my low weight (small bone structure... blaaaah, but my spotter is much weaker than me, even though he's bigger, which is an ego boost :X ), but I'm definently ripped enough to pass for one of the football players (except i look like i would be a freshman player due to the small frame :P ). My biceps are great now, rock hard and I can do heavier curls than my friend whos like 4 inches taller and 30 lbs heavier than me, and in track. I've also noticed the girlies looking my way more often, hehe ;x (another bonus of bodybuilding, haha. I just had to mention it.) I'm hoping by the end of this semester to have put on quite a few pounds of MASS!

Ithil i know how it is to have a freakishly fast metabolism, you seem to be loaded up on protein but have you ever taken in your calorific amount a day every day? For someone with a really fast metabolism while bulking and doing weights etc youre looking at a good 3000 cals minimum Protein is what builds the muscles but if the body doesnt have enough carbs, fats, vitmains etc from normal foods, then you wont gain as fast or as much, the body likes balance, taking loads of protein is not as effective as taking loads of protein in unison with everything else. I know you said you dont like eating much but you have to im afraid, either that or buy some weight gainer. Its good you have access to a gym now that should skyrocket your stats A lot of people seem to think big people can bench a lot....the friend i go to the gym with is a big guy (not fat much...obviously he has fat, but its more big bones etc, though hes lost about 25lbs since starting the gym with me, damn good on him) and he's getting taller than me now, and weighs a lot more, and is built big, and when we started he couldnt even bench 100lbs He's now ahead of me and progressing faster than me too, but thats not the point lol, the point is big guys can be surprisingly weak for there size.....until they weighttrain LOL. Keep going at it and you'll get there in the end weight training to great levels of being big takes years, just give yourself time and you'll get there in the end

i used to have the same problem. i could eat all i want and never gain weight. weight gainers have worked for me, i have been taking prolab n-large2, creatine, and whey protein, and can see significant results.

I found this bodybuilding forum on google and thought it would be kool to give some tips but im more likely to get them cuz ive just started lifting about 6 months ago. I too am a hard gainer but ive grown to see that mass does not grow overnight, strength does. when i first started lifting i kept adding weight to all my lifts because they gradually got easier but i never gained any weight, even though i was eating close to 5000 calories a day. I started to get pissed because i wanted to gain weight with the strenght too. Before i lifted i weighed about 145 at 15 years old. After about 2 months of lifting about (3-6 times a week) i stopped for about 2 weeks because of baseball . when i started to lift again i weighed myself around 160. That was about 3 half mounths ago. Eating is the primary factor in strenth and weight gains (good food and lots of protein) I do lift very hard. I dont do any ***** crap where i do 5 sets and im done. My brother told me to stop that, and to lift harder with less reps(6-8 reps) with more weight, and i train each muscle with about 8-12 sets. I got some supplements, some of u might have heard of it, its called the bsn mass stack, and some protein shakes. Ever since i got it, my lifts have been through the roof. Im not telling u all to go and get it but it helped ALOT! (crazy pumps energy and strenght gains). I hope some of u respond and talk about some tips or gains or something thats helped u. *** im going to keep posted on all my weight, and strength gains*** Some of u might laugh and say hes lying but my chest and legs are very strong cuz i do mostly powerlifting. CREATINE ******* WORKS (esp bsn cellmass) Info: 15 half years old 6'0, 165 Bench-210 squat-360 deadlift 280 legpress- 500
