for football we do as many reps as we can at bench for 225 and for poweclean. I already can do 225: 22 times at bench and 16 times at powerclean. I need a workout or some ideas to get my powerclean from 20-25 reps and my bench from 27-30 reps

okay we have a testing and they have 225 for bench and we do it as many times as we can. Then we do 225 powerclean as many times as we can. I was wondering a good workout to help me get the reps up. And 8pack just because u cant do a weight doesnt mean i cant. I weigh 290 and im 6 foot. A big difference between u and me plus im 17 and have been lifting since i was in 6th grade

I dont suppose a kid asking for a good routine knows how to workout, meaning where did he get all that firepower plus the fact that I, MYSELF going to a highschool packed with JUICERS that are at least 6 times the size of me, have never met a kid that can bench 225lbs 22 times. Im supposing your not a JUICER too. plus your not even a senior yet! my school is like the ones in the movies, you wouldnt believe the # juicers in my school, this, for some reason doesnt allow me to believe you. then again, i could be wrong, I really dont care, Im not jealous, but your the first I have ever seen other then all the kids like you on websites.

A good routine for strength: while all your FB buddies are trying everyday to get the 225lbs to upper reps by repping 225lbs, when your not with them, you should pick up a weight that you can only do 3-4 times and do that taking 2 minute breaks in between you could go maybe like this: 5 sets would be fine with 2 min rest 1-385lbs 5 reps 2-390lbs 4-5 reps 3-395lbs 4 reps 4-400lbs 3 reps 5-400lbs 3 reps edit: i'm guessing you max at 415. saw your post on the strength thread

hes a great coach, but its my teams strength coach that does it. I think in his mind that he wants to be liket he NFL. Or just wants to know that we have been lifting. We also do a mile run and a 40 yard dash time. The coach takes all the times and reps and who got first and what not and decides who is the top ten. The testing is called top ten. So ur trying to say that doing low reps is muc h better for gaining high reps but do a lot of sets?

ohh $hit, i got all confused with the strength adn all that and its posted in the strength forum. doing low reps will get you strong but it will not give you ENDURANCE. sorry that routine is no good for endurance. however, adding that routine to your endurance routine to do it once in a while will give you an incredible boost.

Your coach is doing everything wrong...how can you be good on the field if he kills you in the gym...I can understand you need power and strenght but what the hell with benching it more and more...this will overtrain you and might lead to serious injuries... Anyways this is just up to you but give him a training book...this is almost dangerous...I don't think you want to get hurt because you wanted to bench 225lbs for 1000 reps...USELESS ! A good football players does not need to bench a lot, he needs to be quick, powerful, strong and be able to have some endurance...no need to clean and bench that much !

We dont do it every time that we lift. We do it once out if the entire year. We do it because football is a game of strength and endurance. And repping 225 a lot is a test of both. f this is os dangerous why do most colleges and all MFL combines do it. Every workout we dont do it. Just once the whole summer

A little misunderstanding here...I read wrong I guess, but I was thinking you had to do that more often....sorry about that...but this is still useless IMO.

Ya benching 225 for reps is a common practice at football tryout camps and whatnot, they even do it at the nfl combine, so I would assume that it's good for something.

my 2nd cousin who plays football for the University of Manitoba Bisons is 6 ft 5 and 305 lbs and does 225 22 times aswell. He is 22 years old though. I have done 225 8 times before and figure I could have done it 10 if I pushed it harder.

BP 225 as many times you can is a general test of strength for football players.. just like the 40 yard dash is a general test of speed.. I did the same thing at a combine, but not for a weekly workout

They do it at my school, too. While we're on the subject of football, there was a kid in my state who weighs about 320lbs and is like 6'6". He just got a scholarship for college football. He went to a combine and they posted some of his stats for the events in the paper. He benched 185lbs 24 times. My dad was really impressed, but I'm not. I mean, he weighs over 300lbs, and can only push it up that many times? I tried benching that same percentage of my weight (which is 57%, approximately 95lbs), and I got it up 37 times. So, since I play football, I should not only have a scholarship for college, but I should have NFL coaches lookin' at me now. Those combines are a bunch of crap

Hey man I play college football...am a runningback bench 225 12 times. Have linemen on my team 300+, linebackers 225+....probably 4 out of 140 players on my team that can bench 225 22+ times. Try not to exaggerate your numbers. Everyone here is just trying to help you.
