Hi all,
i'm new to the site.

There is definately a lot of anti american sentiment here in australia. I personally do respect america however feel america and some of the its people can be quite arrogant regarding americas standing. the whole "the world would cease to exist without us" type attitude. That said most country's can be accused of arrogance and few with as much reason to be i guess.

the main problem a lot of us Aussies have with america is that our prime minister apears to be a puppent dangling beneath george W's strings.

Well i think america or the united states is great!   when ever something happens to someone everyone comes together and helps each other out.  Ex: matt maupin was sent to iraq and was captured and he may have been beheaded, but my community still has pictures and yellow ribbons everywhere and this is like almost 2 years later.  I know my country isn't perfect but we do have alot of great people here, then again we do have bad greedy people too.  the good out weighs the bad by far though.  some people say george W. Busch is just trying to finish what his dad started and others say hes all into the oil buisness, but he is a good president i guess.  I live in cincinnati Ohio and its not so bad so...............  Peace out!

This is the actual radio conversation of a US naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October 1995. Radio conversation released by the chief of naval operations, 10-10-95.
CANADIANS: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision.
AMERICANS: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the north to avoid a collision.
CANADIANS: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision.
AMERICANS: This is the captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.
CANADIANS: No, I say again, you divert YOUR course.
AMERICANS: This is the Aircraft Carrier US LINCOLN, the second largest ship in the United States Atlantic Fleet. We are accompanied with three Destroyers, three Cruisers and numerous support vessels. I DEMAND that you change your course 15 degrees north. I say again, that's one-five degrees north, or counter-measures will be undertaken to ensure the safety of this ship.
CANADIANS: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

I am not sure what your point of posting this was, but I hate to break this to you BUT THIS STORY IS COMPLETELY FALSE!  IT NEVER EVER HAPPEND.

Question:

Do you believe America is respected?

Who cares?

Being respected is not even close to being an important factor that we should be worrying about.  There are plenty of reasons for people to "hate" America.  I have only one question for them -- then why the H**L is everyone trying to GET INTO the United States?  If this was such a terrible country with this "madman" George Bush running it, why do so many people try to come here, most risking their lives to do so?

The reason:  Like it or not, America is the greatest country on the face of the planet.  We are the most free, democratic, and affluent people who has ever lived on this planet.  The poorest among us live richer than the majority of people in other countries.  We give more monetary aid, medical aid, food, disaster relief, you name it we GIVE IT.   Oh, and by the way for our European friends, may I remind you that America liberated Europe in WWII or you would be speaking German right now.  Wake up!

And while I am on a roll, although I don't agree with everything that George W. Bush does, I can say this.  He has kept us safe from foreign terrorists since the attack on 9-11, and has liberated Iraq from a killer dictator.  Is everything perfect?  No.  Is the world still dangerous?  Yes.  But it is not the fault of the U.S.

So, who cares if we are respected?  As long as we are safe and are prospering and are sharing that prosperity with poorer countries as we already do, who cares what others may say.

God Bless the U.S.!

Most countries are indifferent about America.  The anti-american stuff we see on the news from other places is just our own country's propoganda.

omg what a load of bullsh1t
you sound like what most people think about americans
Loud and full of them selves
giving so much aid and money to other conties should not be measured by how much is given either if that is one of your so called good points about america it should be the percentage of what you have from what u have give

think of it like this
if england gives 1 million units of aid and america gives 10 million yes it sounds better but how much did england have to give inb the start we may have only had 5 so that is 20 percent where as american may have had 100 million units to give

and the world war yea u helped but for ages you were all so fcukin selfish that you would not get involved until you were bombed if you were all against tyrany and that then you would have gotten involved a lot sooner

some people are just to big headed to know that they are going to be there own down fall
sorry if this is long but yea i respects america a bit bit6 it depends on the example u are using
if it is the stupid load person the hell no
if hard working family person then yes

btw im not anti-american

hahahaha thats the funniest thing i've ever heard, but sorry to break it to you guys..

"It ain't true. Not only does the Navy disclaim it, the anecdote shows up in a 1992 collection of jokes and tall tales. Worse, it appears in Stephen Covey's 1989 The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, and he got it from a 1987 issue of Proceedings, a publication of the U.S. Naval Institute."

Yes, i believe we are respected.  We should be, we are the most successful nation, full of hardworking people who have worked for their goals to make this country so great.

We are also seen, though, as ignorant and arrogant, which can be case for our corrupted politics and many people of "Idiot America" who are oblivious to the outside world.

We are hated throughout the world though, but in my opinion, who cares?  We're the best.  That may sound arrogant, but its true.

All of you who put ALL the blame on George Bush for our country losing respect are simply ignorant.  I don't agree with a lot of Bush's decisions but honestly he doesn't deserve as much of the blame as he gets.

I don't think that this counrty is "most successful" by any means. I would probably lean toward Japan for that honor. Big business is slowly killing this country by outsourcing jobs and products, and we (as a whole) are too damn short-sighted to do anything about it.

Who cares what they think, most of the world hasn't liked us for a very very long time , but when they are in need we are always there and have spilled blood for them , how much American blood has been left in Europe ? plenty.
Actually it is most of the others that I don't respect and I couldn't care less about if they respect us.

lol i dont believe my post of the canadian navy thing had me stating i believed it actually happened, i just posted it for humours sake, i knew it was doubtfully true.

I thought id add a bit in as ive got to know americans a lot more, ive also matured quite a bit in the last ahh....3 weeks LOL.

A simple answer would be that you cannot generalise 250 million seperate human beings.
An even simpler answer would be that using said above statement it is impossible to respect a nation, as a nation is the word for everyone, or at the very least-the government.

So due to the government being "whatever insult you like insert here" it automatically makes millions of people the same.

Time and time again there are protests against our governments, and people stating how they hate it, and then people state how the government defines how its population thinks.

errr...sure...Okay...

Do i respect America right at this very minute?

Well lets take a step back here

While i may not agree with there customs, religions and ways of politics, they care for human life, they are at the very least, compassionate for the most part, they understand emotion inherent in all living things.
For that i respect them.

As to all these wars.

2nd world war America didnt get involved until it was attacked, therefore everyone thought America was being selfish.
Iraq War america was never attacked by Iraq-but its cleansing the tyranny residing there at this current time. With this, everyone thought America was being selfish.

You cannot generalise someones way of life through the country they live in. Cultures might be different, and customs may be different, but there is one thing most humans do have, even if it is rare to see in some people, and that is the love for another human, many humans, and the overall wishing of wellbeing to other humans.

This in itself i respect.

Do i respect America? No
I dont respect any country, it is physically impossible unless the nation is full of clones.

I respect humans, no matter what race they are, as your race does not pre determine your entire lifestyle, future, and way of thinking.
