Activate Beta Tester - That's Me!

Do you remember about a week ago that I asked for some members to raise thier hands and volunteer for a trial supplement called "Activate" from DesignerSupplements? Hope so. But if not, it's coming. Smile

My 1 month supply arrived a few days ago and the other testers should have their supplies soon. This is where I'm going to log my progress, thoughts and generally how I'm feeling every 2-3 days. The other testers should be doing the same.

What is Activate?

In layman's terms: (maybe I'm below a layman)

"Your have (say) 100 testosterone "things" in your body - 70 of these things are actively free to do their job of promoting protein synthesis in the nucleus of the cell. The other 30 things are bound by something called sex-hormone binging globulin (SHBG) which renders them essentially inactive.

ActivaTe will prevent SHBG from de-activating the free test things, thereby allowing more test things to promote protein synthesis."

What Should it Do For Me?

Make me stronger
Give me more testosterone to use for muscle production
Lower my body fat and make me leaner
Possibily lower my cholesterol

How Do I Take This?

5 caps, 4 times a day with food. Why so many capsules? Twin Peak said it's just becuase the amount per cap is low right now. So in order to get the recommended dosage, I have to take more caps. Since this is a beta, I would except this not to be the same once it's released.

What's Next?

I'll post some before measurements and a picture to go with those measurements. While I probably won't log each workout, I will log if I felt stronger on a day, or beat a personal best, or felt like crap... whatever.

Before I start... I will post a recent, non-professional standard type "I'm standing in my kitchen hiking up my shorts" as well as measurements with a MyoTape device.

Twin opened it up and I put up an announcement about a week ago looking for participants.

Trial is closed on this end. I dunno what Steve can do but as far as I know.. door is now closed.

Attached is a picture I took, standard kitchen, non-flexed pose on 4/28/2005. Measurements will be as of this afternoon.

Measurements:

Weight: 189
Body Fat: 15.7%
Chest: 40
(L) arm: 15.75
Neck: 16
Waist: 34.5
Thighs: 24
Calves: 16

Diet:

Low calorie - 2428-2489 (10-20% reduction in maintenance calories)
Maintainance - 2542

3 days of low, 1 day of maintainance. Zig-zag method.

That's exactly what I was thinking as I'm writing them down...

This AFTER picture is after cardio coach and after 1.5 go around of Optimum Anabolics.

I'm actually only 3 lbs heavier then when I started overall but my entire body composition has changed since I began. I gained a lot more muscle and dropped fat.

So if my arm before was 16.5 but after cardio and the OA program it's 15.75 but more of that is muscle..

I dunno. I just agree with you. I don't feel weaker. I'm stronger. My aerobic capacity is way up. And the visuals show that I'm bigger then reported. Which just means that I've gained a lot of muscle with the OA program and dumped some fat around my upper body and thighs and waist in the last couple of months since the cutting began.

On Monday, I plan on tracking my diet tightly again with FitDay so that my cut really is a cut and not a "I'm cutting.. oh wait.. I also had a 6 pack of beer... ah.. I'm cutting" style diet.

After 30 days, I'll do another picture and measurements. We'll see what the visuals report.

**Editor's Note**

On a related issue. Visual are the most important. And here's why.

If you look good to judges on stage then it doesn't matter what numbers say or your body fat might be. I recently talked with a Conta Costa competitor and his take was basically:

Who gives a s*it what your body fat is. If you are on-stage, ripped and have size and you look better then the guy next to you at 3%. Who cares.

Bottom line, it's the visuals that really count.

I look at the before and after. And my thought keeps coming back that I'm bigger yet more lean. Cool. I'm getting this right.

The one thing that never changes is the fact I need a tan in both pictures! Smile

Thats exactly it, my arms are almost 15" and they look MUCH smaller

Thanks Twin.

Weight Routine:

I will be sticking with Optimum Anabolics. Simply because:

It fits with my current schedule
I don't want to interject a totally different routine into this trial

Cardio Routine:

I am going to do 3 days of cardio the first week, 5 days the second, and every day for the last two. This will be a mixture of Cardio Coach ( 2 days a week HIIT) and 5 days of 30 minutes in Zone 2. I'm going to take advantage of this trials window and do some advanced fat loss techniques.

Diet:

I'm on a cut and I'll be sticking with a cutting phase. But for this 30 days, I will be more strict in tracking what I eat and ensuring that I stay within my limits. The zig-zag method will be used. 3 days low calorie, 1 day maintenance.

Took my first dose yesterday.. all 4 times. Felt pumped in the morning for some reason. Not related to this supplement but just in general.

I have a short-term goal! And that is motivating.

At the current time I'm taking my 5 caps 4 times a day;

First Dose: Breakfast
Second Dose: Mid-morning snack around 10am
Third Dose: Lunch
Fourth Dose: Dinner

Been taking my 4 pills, 5 times a day with food. So far, it's all good. Nothing yet. No mood swings. No strength gains to speak of. No incredible pumps.

I would think most supplements take at least a full 7 days to get into effect unless it's super potent or there's some immediate effects.
