If you're cutting, go to the gym right after you wake up and do some cardio activities. Don't consume anything first, so your body will be in the state whereby the glucose is low.

This will allow the cardio activity directly use up the fat as a source of energy, instead of the glucose stored in your body/muscle.

However, if you think you can't maximize your cardio because you don't have the energy to do so, eat VERY small amount before doing any cardio activity.

if you're cutting, it's best to go right when you wake up.  i don't really think you necissarily have to go on an empty stomach, i have a protein bar before i go.

it's ideal to go again after work to lift, but if you can't make 2 trips, you can just lift after you do some cardio.......or do cardio after you lift

Cardio on empty stomach makes so little difference it's not worth the effort.

Would you elaborate a bit more? I didn't know this before, but that's what I have always been told before, and it makes a lot of sense IMO.

It would be interesting to know why you think so.

how would it be ideal to go again after work?

truebeginner it really doesnt make that much of a difference either way. i prefer morning cardio but it would be better to have some protein before it anyway, either way it wont make a huge difference

i certainly dont have time to go twice a day lol, plus i dont want to over work myself either.

but if theres debate over weather or not it is benificial to workout in the morning or not and none over any other time of the day, then surely it would be an educated guess to try working out in the morning anyway, and see if it works. and if it doesnt then it would still be the same as working out in the afternoon wouldnt it?

i dont see any harm in it, unless someone has another opinion?

1)  Does your use of the term "workout" include weights?  If so, do not train on an empty stomach when hitting the weights.  If you just meant cardio only, you can do it upon waking up on an empty stomach or not.  Some people can, some can't.  As Coldfire said, the debate rages on but the differences in true fat loss can be very minimal.  For me?  I've got an exercise bike at home.  I don't mind it at all.  But if I had to drive to the gym, I'd eat first.

Really the best time to train is whenever you have the energy to do so.  If you are not a morning person and you never want to be but after 8-9 hours of work, you're ready to go and spry.. then train at that time.

Whatever you can fit into your busy schedule where you feel you've got the most energy and a some time to devote to training.  It can in the morning, after work or later if you so choose.

I'm just curious to know if you meant hitting the weights when working out as I feel you probably did.. and in that case, I'd advise against training with weights and/or cardio if your workouts will include the iron.

If it's just cardio, you can go either or.

if you do cardio in the morning, you're losing your energy.  lifting weights without energy is ridiculous and stupid; pointless.  if you spend 8-10 hours at work and get alittle more energy, then you can go back and hit the weights with all you have.

why do you always ask questions like you know everything?  "how would it be ideal to go again after work?"

look it up next time instead of trying to get me to say something so you can "pwn" me or whatever it is you call it

yea because the advice your offering doesnt make as much sense. Why would someone run in the morning, then workout? sure if thats all they can do its not a big deal but it would make much more sense to workout first when they have the most energy..then they can do cardio either right after working out or if they dont have time they can do it after work. someone shouldnt need to "look it up" to understand that they'll have more energy for the workout if they do it first

if you're trying to lose weight, cardio should be #1 on the agenda at all times.  sure, you can lift and workout before you do cardio, but if you're trying to lose weight, cardio should be first on your list

no..it shouldnt

getting stronger, lifting hard, and working out should be the main training priority. diet is also of course extremely important. then cardio should be done. tons of bodybuilders get cut without cardio...none do it without lifting.
