how much do you sweat?
-
Thursday, June 26, 2008 12:43 PM
Personally I sweat a whole lot, I just always have. I see some guys working out in the gym dont even break a sweat and me? im producing enough perspiration to drown a third world village...well its not really that bad, but worse than most. I just always wondered was it good or bad? I ran across an article that caught my interest, I mean I knew you lost minerals and whatnot but had no idea it effected energy levels. Does anyone else know anything about this? Dunno if this article is legit or backed by anything but I found it interesting none the less. this might explain why I have felt so fatigued lately. I have been doing a lot of work outside sweating tons, along with cardio and lifting. I wanted to see what everyone else thought, here is the article I found... http://ezinearticles.com/?Is-Heavy-Sweating-During-Exercise-Good-For-Your-Health?&id=314200

i sweat a ton. doing whatever, i sweat. it makes since that you would lose minerals and what not when you sweat which is why i always drink an electolyte drink when i workout/run. it is superior to water and you can just get an electrolite mix that has no sugar or anything else added

I drip sweat whenever I lift weights. I am always soaked. I haven't seen anyone else in my gym sweat as much as I do, but I always wipe down benches. The fake trainers have asked if I was ok a couple of times.

I sweat more than most. I always chalked it up to short breaks between sets (30 seconds) and supersetting whenever possible. as for losing strength as a result of sweating. I'm sure losing electrolytes has an effect but I have never seen a correlation between the amount of sweat that I lose and my strength on any lifts. If I worked out for 2 hours or something I guess I would see more electrolyte losses. But then again the dudes that work out for a long time usually do it because they take long breaks and chat too much, as a result of this I think they probably sweat less anyway. You are right to consider all possible causes of your fatigue but I don't think sweating is the main cause. btw, some of yall mentioned sugarless electrolyte drinks. Are they like powders that you put in your water? or what? If its just gatorade i think I will pass, I don't dig on the HFCS in that stuff.

Heres some of the things that caught my attention and wanted me to make this post. When too much energy is utilized in sweating, there is not much left behind to handle other bodily functions and therefore your body will tire whole lot easier after heavy sweating regardless of reasons for such sweating. The basic point to remember is this: You only have so much energy available. It takes a lot of energy to lose heat. If you waste your energy in this manner, you won't have the energy you need to perform other tasks. Thats what caught my attention. I knew you lost minerals and what not, but I had no idea you could be expending so much energy from sweating, it makes sense now that I think about it. I would like to take an electrolyte drink, but I dont know where to find one without all the sugar. I hear pickle juice is good, but that was word of mouth, dont know how far that holds up. Im gonna look more into it and see what i can find.

As a fat a former fat chick I would sweat like crazy. Working out my clothes, hair, and handwraps were drenched. As a normal chick I don't sweat that much. I do get a good sweat going but my cloths and hair are not drenched.

I sweat easily and it's really annoying although not as bad as some other people it's like I've been doing 2mins of weights or cardio and I start to sweat when I'm not even trying.

Why would it take loads of energy for sweating to take place? The whole evolutionary point of sweating is to do the opposite, lose heat, not make heat. Sweating occurs with minimal energy, and as water (with salts) absorb heat readily, it takes the heat from your body and evaporates, making you cool down. I dont buy the whole sweating takes loads of energy, as itd be a backwards process otherwise, sweating is extremely effective, as a result if any energy is lost from it it wont be enough to make a difference. What is worrying is loss of water doesnt help your electrolyte balance, and ionoregulation and osmoregulation can make a large toll on your body which forces it to make a quick adaption to such fast loss of water, which results in less than perfect strength. Remember your ability to move via the sodium potassium pump works on potentials and if water is lacking youre going to have trouble maintaining said potentials.
It's impossible to meddle with something that doesn't have a plan
