The human body is a remarkable machine.  It know what is coming in and it know what is going out, to a point.  The human body will know if you are cutting fat from your diet, and will compensate by using glycogen stores for fuel instead of fat, and then you will not lose very much fat, percentage wise.  You need good fats when cutting, to tell your body that it is ok to shed fats, because I will replace them.  More importantly though, good fats play a key role in many of the functions of the human body, and will just perform better in all aspects if you get the right amount of EFA's in your diet at the right ratios.

Your body needs good fats for all sorts of basic bodily functions. For example, take a look a the root of words "cholesterol", "testosterone" and "steroid".

You need ALL fats whether you are cutting or bulking.  Yes, including saturated.  Trans fat is the only fat you don't need and shouldn't touch.  Saturated fat is extremely important, as are mono/polyunsaturated fats from NATURAL sources.  I would never go below 20-25% of your calories coming from fat.  Your brain itself is made almost exclusively of fat, not to mention the myelin sheaths that cover your nerves.  saturated fats are needed for energy, hormone production, cellular membranes and for organ padding. certain saturated fatty acids are also needed for important signaling and stabilization processes in the body.

Fats stimulate growth hormones.

During a cut, I would limit the saturated fats. The good fats will ensure that the hormones we need are produced sufficiently.

fats are deemed the "bad guys" of foods.

fats are actually some of the most important "guys" out there.

they are essitial to organs and the central nervous system

they provide the body with potential and stored energy

act as a carrier for vitamins D, E, A, and K

controlls hunger pangs

-----basically, they are essential

Eat your fat!
Don't neglect Saturated Fats. nspeed's listed all the reasons

When it comes to fats, just focus on your omega 3 to omega 6 ratio.

Trans fats should only come from animals e.g. milk, cheese, ground beef etc.

you need every kind of fat. simple fats, compound fats, and derived fats.

you could probably do without very many derived fats (cholesterol)

but the other fats are absolutely an essential part of a diet, an absolute must in any eating program, and an indispensable ingredient in the quest for optimum healt

i don't know how those three tie together.

i can see how steroid and testosterone are related, but cholesterol just comes from derived fats....

not trying to start any arguments or anything, but can you explain further? i'm just confused......

Trans fat?...comming from animals?

I try to read articles whenever I get the chance and I remember a few distinctly saying Transfat is actually man made having to do with food production back in the 70's i believe.

Other fats are essential, some more than others. Trans fats are always the ones you should avoid at all costs...

correct me if im wrong...maybe you were talking about saturated?

trans fat can be found in very small amounts naturally in animals too i know, its very low tho not significant by any means...i dont know how much, but it is present

im guessing soulja just meant dont eat things like snack foods that have trans fat added to them, a few foods naturaly have small amounts of trans fat, and thats ok because its miniscule (sp?)
