Cottage Cheese or casein shake before bed? - Saturday, May 31, 2008 12:16 AM
I know cottage cheese is a good bedtime snack, but would it be more beneficial than a casein shake?  Cottage cheese is the better option when it comes to price, but what about nutrition?

Real food is always a better option, cottage cheese has casein, so really its the same thing. It would be better to eat the cottage cheese with a tiny bit of peanut butter before bed. Food > shakes.

although i agree that real food is almost always better, the casein shake would have the benefit of not giving having simple sugars in it

If you can stomach it, the cottage cheese. If not the casein shake is a good alternative.

Yep, that's the main reason I needed this question answered.  Shakes are a little rough with my wallet

Why not drink a high-protein milk?

I drink milk every night, and it has 10g of protein per 200ml.
It's very affordable as well.

Same here.  I can't stomach very much cottage cheese, so I have 8 oz of milk mixed with 8 oz of liquid egg whites.
