Get a distortion pedal if your amp's distortion sucks. When you get a good amp with good distortion, that's when you start getting the real kick a** sounds, but for now a cheap distortion pedal will give you that "electric guitar" sound. The other channel is called the 'clean' channel. It's nice to have a foot pedal that lets you switch between clean and overdrive channels too.

It sounds like you havn't turned the gain level up enough, try turing the master volume low first then winding the gain up full.

What I'm saying is that usually cheap amps aren't going to have good sounding overdrive channels, but cheap amps can have a good sounding clean channel. That's why a cheap amp with a distortion pedal outta do you just fine for your purposes.

Okay i put the amp up a tad, and the guitar full blast and i got a nice effect i can live with LOL.
Just learnt and practised chords D, A and E, and learnt them, and my GOD my fingers hurt HAHA, well, the tips, im scared of playing the E string incase it lacerates my finger hahahaha
D can be a bit of a **** with the last string going Bink from the damn wedding finger.
Is that age 21 thingy thing true?
Or does it simply mean itl take a bit longer?

After you learn a few basic chords, learn the power chord. You will then be able to play 90% of all rock songs. But don't get sucked into the power chord thing too hard though. It's very important to use other full chords to give yourself a signature sound and actually get GOOD at guitar, but power chords are a tool to make non-guitar players think that you're awsome at guitar.
Lead guitar is a whole different ball game, but worry about chords for now.

what is the difference between lead and rhythm?
lead does the solos and rhythm just plays the chords??
Anywho, ive got the 3 chords down, i just need speed now, once ive got my speed up to scratch on changing them im going to try a few 3 chord songs (Luckily theres a few i like)
HAHA, well most people i know who say they can play the guitar play it awful so itd be nice the next party to steal the guitar off of them and roll out some half fake playing to make me look awesome so il try to nail those power chords LOL.
My fingers hurt like a **** and ive only been doing this for an hour or so....If that...Ive been playing that game inbetween mostly haha

Ya, typically lead guitar is playing little licks and stuff over what the rhythm guitarist is playing. To get pretty good at lead guitar it's helpful to learn the basic scales (major, minor, pentatonic, etc..) But that won't happen for a while now, so just focus on learning your chords and technique for now.
I have a habit of confusing beginning guitarists very quickly, so don't listen too much to what I say. Just learn the BASICS for now.

Im a sciency person, i can read some shizzle and pick it up and remember it for ages.
I cant do arts, music, art, and english etc, just...woosh, over my head, thats why im so proud ive managed to get the 3 basic chords done already ROFL.

Dude, it's your first day, lol. I'm talking about over a LONG period of time you can become great. Learn some chords, practice, etc... If you decide that you love it, and want to keep getting better and better then the sky is the limit. Many people give it up after a short while though because it's like this big huge puzzle that takes forever to 'click'. Check out those links though, you can learn a ton from them.
It took me 15 years to get to the point where I pretty much don't ever meet a guitar player that can play something that I can't. That came from practicing for hours and hours a day, every single day, and not having sex, because I was too busy being obsessed with learning the guitar, lol.

I don't know about sex, but I did get head while playing guitar. I have turned down sex many times because I was busy playing guitar. It used to really piss my girlfriend off sometimes, lol.

Ah, we've hit a slight snag there, i would prefer sex personally LOL.
Yeah i do suppose practice makes perfect, Im not one to give up through time phases, im one to give up if i dont see enough progress.
I mean i havent made hardly any progress at all, but its been 1 day, totalling 1 half assed hour attempt, so it doesnt bother me, if im still at the same level after weeks, thats when il start to get bored haha.
