Ya, you don't want to lock your knees when just standing around.  That could be a bad idea.  It hurts me when I do that too.

apparently i've been doing it without thinking.  that's changing though.  i'm making an effort to quit that

24 yrs old (currently bulking and using HST)
December 2007 181 lbs.
Current weight : 202.4 lbs
32 in" waist
10.5% body fat - Jan 2008
Current BF : 13%
16.5 in' bicep
305 lb. max bench (in Jan. 08)
300 lb. max bench (on April 15th, 2008)
200 lb. Barbell Overhead press 1 rep max (April 2008)
Deadlift max = 275 lbs (april 15, 2008)
Curved barbell Curl max = 130 lbs. (April 15, 2008)
max squat = I don't know.. injured myself

Supplements
Sweet Potato Smoothie daily
Musclemilk - cytogainer (gots to get ma' carbs)
Whey protein smoothie in the A.M. (peanut butter, milk, whey, oatmeal = yum)
Fish oil, vit. c, multivitamin



Working out is 90% mental... 10% physical

my knees may not be the best.. but my biceps more than make up for it Smile.   

getting old sucks.  but it's inevitable.  and i'm not even old HAHHA...

lol i am not looking forward to getting old


sometimes when i squat down to pick something up i feel some pressure in my knee's but nothing serious

i did throw my back out in 6th grade thoughSmile

I'm only 26, and I feel like I'm 25 1/2.  My knees have been bad since I was 10, so it has nothing to do with age.  You fartknockers.

have you guys ever done one of those "body age" tests? where they see how old your body is compared to your real age?

back when i was 23.. they said after all the strength and flexibility and other tests that i had the body of a 20 year old.

even though I show-up and compete in the local strongman contests I really don't do it to win anything, I only do it to have a good workout, plus I like to see some people I've met doing this stuff.

I only prepare myself in training so I won't get an injury, not to be the best.

I also love the training, and yes it's a perfect way for me to end a hard day, actually I'm ready for the family chores after a pr session.

I don't care about impressing people in a gym or whatever, but I'd like to continue this stuff even when I'm an old man, (60+ in age).

I like labor, (I'm not a fan of computers and college) I believe I can be a laborer at those ages and train like this, I'd like to "show" that, I mean even the guys who are bodybuilders all say it's too tough to do labor at an old age.

in my mind the "training" protects me from the stress of "labor".

I don't get caught up in the 2hours sessions though, there was a time I liked it that much, and when other priorities get in the way, it got stressful not being able to train as much as I wanted, I'm very glad I've overcome that way of thinking.

Good post Luke.  Ya, I don't really mean to be there for 2 hours, but that's just what happens.  I'd rather get it all done in 1 hour or less.

I only do 4 different lifts per workout with a few sets of ab work at the end.  That ends up taking me 2 hours, lol.  Just the squats take about 30 - 45 minutes.  Whatever though, I still love it.  I take as long as necessary to finish my workout.

how does the weight i lift relate at all to how long it takes him to get through an exercise?
if he's doing a 5x5 and it takes him 30min. to do it thats about 5.5 min of rest which is a long time. and 30min. was the least he said

If you never had a set of squats which requires more than 5 minutes to recover to get the next set completed, then you don't train heavy.

i have and often do train heavy, thanks for such helpful comments

i never said i've never had a set like that, i said he has really long rest times if it takes him as much as 45min. just for squats, which is 100% true unless he's doing over 15 sets which i know he isnt.

i would consider 30 to under 60 short, 60-about 120 pretty standard and more than that is long. more than 5 being really long
