im 170 right now and somedays if i eat more than usual the scale hits 175. im just wondering for the experienced guys out there, what were you lifting at my wegiht> i wanna compare and see if im sucking or not. for example, i can deadlft 225 15 times and i pulled 280x6 the other day. i dont know bodyweight/lifting ratios very well. and my bench is stuck at 150-170.

Actually these numbers don't mean much. These are just general observations, taken from "Practical Programming" by Rippetoe & Kilgore.

But why did it put you to shame? I remember you had some decent lifts.

At 170-175lbs i was benching (max) nearly 210lbs ish
deadlifting 345lbs ish(max) and
squatting 220lbs for a few reps

At 188 im now

benching 160lbs (max)
deadlifting 425lbs (max)
squatting 220lbs for a few reps still LOL.

I wouldnt worry too much about strength, you appear to be like me, all back no tits.

Its not all bad though, a big back can look more impressive than a big chest, not to mention a big strong back is more useful for everyday activities.

A big strong chest has 3 advantages

1.It gets looks
2.It allows you to "tit dance"
3.It allows you to bench a lot

dude wat happeend to bench? injury? form check?

lol why dont you just rub those 170 lb. maxes in my face

lol no, im just **** at benchpress, it went down for no real reason....

My 5 RM's @ 195 are:

squat - 255
dead - 325
bench - 215
press - 140
clean - 135

that puts me right between novice and intermediate level.

At around 170 lbs. I didn't squat, deadlift, or clean (hence the reason I was only 170 lbs.) and my bench 5RM was probably like 185 lbs.  My press 5RM was probably like 95 lbs. or 105 lbs.

No I took it seriously too, and I am a funny, funny girl, with english as her first language Smile.

But, only because I hate where I fall on those charts, guidline or otherwise. between novice and intermediate, oh it makes me so mad! Only my Dead is truely intermediate.

I think if you start doing some more push ups and different chest exercises your bench will go up. Worked for me when i was stuck around 160 started doing push ups and it went up real quick

It doesn't put you anywhere. You should know better.

There is a difference between strength level and programming complexity level. This table is just a general guide.

Coldfire don't give me any lip.

I meant within the values on the chart you turdsmoker.  You know I know what the difference between a novice and an intermediate trainee is.

I maxed out a few weeks back. At 175 I did:
Bench 1RM 275
Squat 1RM 245
Press 1RM 175
Didn't do Deads b/c I had just started doing them.
Can you tell I've neglected my legs? I'm working hard to fix that though (squats and deads every day for my HST workouts). Hopefully the legs will catch up, but I feel pretty decent about where my bench and press is at. Been working out seriously for about 6 months now I guess.

Squat: 250x1 (legs need lots of work)
Deadlift: 255x1 (first max)
Shoulder BB Press: 185x1

Yeah that chart that coldfire mentioned has good goals to work towards. If you want to determine your goal max that is a good reference. It says that I'm a novice and I've either met or surpassed those standards, so I'm feeling pretty good right now.

i see your point.

but at least do you know if 280x6 is...for a lack of a better word 'impressive' for 170? i ask these things because im self-conscious about pretty much everything in life. hell, when the gym gets crowded i get intimiated almost and just stop working out.

i weigh 170 now and just pulled up 365
