The only thing I don't like is this game is slow paced.

It's a strategy type game, where you're on a map with up to 6 players, and you have various abilities at your disposal to kill the other players. It's pretty fun, most games take about 5-8 minutes, and it's free.

You're actually pretty lucky to start on an island with a quarry; marble is the is the luxury resource you'll need the most of, and it's the one that sells for the most in trade. Anyhow, I've got a boat on the way.

You should be able to see if you go to your port (assuming you've built it) and look at the incoming ships. Hover your mouse cursor over the number of ships and it'll let you know what's on board.

Meh i dont like the way you can only upgrade/build one thing at a time, im used to command and conquer games where im multi tasking doing 10 different buildings and units at one go, though you did say its a slow paced game.

You can do multiple things, but only one building at a time per colony. You can eventually have several cities going at once, and each one can have a building going. And you can do stuff like train soldiers in the barracks or train spies in the hideout, or trade resources with other towns while some other building is being constructed.
A town is more of a long-term investment, it's not like a RTS game where the whole thing could be over in 20 minutes, it takes weeks to build your empire.

You build more cities, achieve higher levels of research, pillage your neighbors... I can see why it might not be some people's style of game; it's generally not very confrontational unless you work to make it so.

I like the game, it really is perfect for doing at work, it's slow paced, so you can do something, and go back 20 minutes later and do something else.

hm i guess i could try it, i usually like fighting games. i've never actually played a computer game before but my brother was obsessed with world of warcraft and those age of mythology games

It is still a beta, so it has some bugs. You'll probably notice a bunch of things that aren't 100% translated from German, for instance.

lol, if you like empires and taking over then google unification wars
They have a little sister game i forgot the name of on the same site, its browser based and id say its difficulty of mastering is 5/10, theres much harder out there.
This game is more for slow paced tech building and resource gathering, really slow sim city or civilisations basically.
The settlers games are definitely worth it though, you battle in them and its a really fun game, i miss old classics, games just dont seem to be as "classic" as they used to be, when youd go to bed at 4 am after trying to get through a hard level and waking up at 7am and pretending to be ill to your mum and spend the rest of the day playing the game.
Oh man they were the days.
