Protein With Creatine - Thursday, February 07, 2008 7:19 PM
Hey everyone. I'm currently 17 y.o and taking 100% whey protein.

I have a hard time gaining mass/weight so I though of taking creatine... Problem is that ive heard not to mix protein and creatine... what are the dangers?

Also heard that creatine sends water cells into the muscle to look bigger, but doesnt that make your gains water gains?

Is there dangers in taking creatine for the kidney and whatnot?

Thanks for answering, long live bbing!!13... and girls

No side effect if directions are followed.  Yes you will pack on alot of water weight, around the 5 lb mark.  You need to stay very hydrated, and taking creatine with protein isn't really the issue, but moreso that creatine is alot more bioavailable if taken in a warm fluid such as tea.

Creatine is a mythical beast.  It's process, in a nutshell, is that it aloows your body to do more work before failure.  It does this by incorporating less muscle fibers at a time, so if you are to do the same amount of work you always did, you would gain nothing, if you take advantage of the extra time frame and intensity that creatine allows you, you can work past your regular gains.

Just if i got it all down right....... Basically it can allow you to do more reps of a given weight? Say i do 10 times 50lbs curls... I could go to 20 or so?

if you can double your output on the creatine you were not working out hare enough before. 10 reps may go to 13 or 15 perhaps or maybe the weight will go up 2 or 3%.  Small steps, you are just topping up a substance that occurs naturally in your body but is depleted when you work out.  You can get 5 grams of creatine from 20lbs of red meat if you want to go that route.........20lbs of red meat a day that is.

There are different protein shakes, most common are Whey, Cassein, Egg, and mixed varieties.
Whey - take first thing in the morning and within 30 mins post workout
Cassein - before bed, or anytime you may be awhile in between meals
Egg, and mixed varieties can be used anytime, but use the whey post workout.
The bottle of creatine will say to take on off days, but you only need to use it on off days if you didn't use it after your last workout.  Creatine supplementation replaces what is used up during your workout, wo adding another dose before burning off the last one will just make your pee expensive.

I don't understand why you suggest that Whey should be taken first thing in the morning.
Whey is most commonly used pre/post workout and as a meal replacement alongside a form of carbohydrate, most often a banana.

Whey first thing in the morning is for the same reason as after your workout........your body is starving for protein and will suck it up.  Amino acids need to be restored about every 3 hours to keep a steady supply to the muscles, as it cannot be stored like glycogen and fat, so after sleeping 7 hours or more, your muscles are very much in need of a reload, and whey is the fastest way of doing that.

100% Right. Also add in a serving of BCCA in the morning with the whey and it just makes muscle recovery so much better. Oatmeal, whey, bcaa is my morning ****tail along with some pills.

I really gotta try creatine some time.  I've never tried it, but if it will help me lift more, then hell ya!

I drink whey shakes way too much.  I have one in the morning, pre and post workout, and sometimes before bed.  I friggin love them, so I just drink them just because I crave them.  It's been working pretty good for me though, so I can't complain.

branched chain amino acids.... the core of whey protein that builds and maintains muscle

in accordance to that, would it be alright if i just take bcaa capsules in the morning instead of a whey shake? i want to save my whey...
