i didnt read past the first page but i by far care about size more

strength is nice but no one can look at a skinny strong guy and be impressed unless they watch them workout. i would never put it all this hard work if it was only so i could just move more weight. i do it so i have a sexy bodySmile and look impressive

Awesome post jheft...

I'm starting to see the lines blur and you really pointed out it nicely.  Lately a lot of "Men's Health" guys are claming to be bodybuilders and preaching core and functional strength and totally disregarding that bodybuilders train for the shape of a muscle and not to see how big their bench or deadlift can be...

You nailed the line quite nicely and I hope others see the distinction.

Strength is not just a powerlifting thing.  There's a lot more to being strong then just being able to put up big numbers in the big 3.  Strength = healthy body.  Your joints, bones, tendons, and ligaments are better protected by the surrounding muscle.  You become faster and more athletic all around.  You don't "age" as quickly (as far as natural muscle degeneration goes - the old "use it or lose it" principle).  You look better.  The list goes on....

It makes no sense to me why someone wouldn't want to be strong.  Why wouldn't everyone want to have the ablity to use all the muscles in their body to perform lifes' daily activities more easily?

Basically a stronger body should be everyone's goal on here, even if your only goal is to look better.  Train for strength, and I guarantee you that your physique will improve on a daily basis.

I really really REALLY love this post.

On the other hand, if I can disagree with myself for a little bit... A lot of neophytes can use my argument as an excuse to skip squats and deadlifts and curl their little brains out. And everyone knows that big, heavy, compound movements are the best thing for building mass.

This isnt about you silverfox but anyone with big arms.

Ive noticed girls appear to love big arms (thats what appears to happen to me whenever a girl starts flirting with me-mentions my arms)

Thing is...

If a girl fancied a guy with 17" arms-ripped too

would she be less attracted once the guy starts shrieking out 3 half reps with 45lbs dumbells

Or be less attracted if he finished a nice clean slow set of 15 warmup reps on 45lbs dumbells.

Strength beats size in that department i think Smile

Itl be like "my big man will come and....why cant you carry me over the threshold? what do you mean i weight too much?!?!"

LOL.

i dont think most girls would care, or even know how strong the guy is.  i helped my friend (girl) move a piano out of her house and she was like "damn david ur stronger than u look" (i think i mentioned this in the past). but its not like that mattered much, i mean i wish i looked stronger instead.

For me, I'm going to go in a slightly different direction. I really dont have anymore inclination to get any bigger essentially, even thought I understand that through lifting it will happen and it's outta my control. For the strength, it's only for the ego really, which I stand for the "it's not what you lift, it's how you lift it." So I'd rather being doing 10 clean slow reps of 180 on the bench, then dying on 4 dirty reps of 225 on the bench. What I train for, I guess you call it definition. If I remained the size I am now, and was shredded to the core, I would be satisfied. However, I will get bigger because it comes with the territory, so this paradoxical post is essentially saying that I train for neither. I care most about what the mirror reflects, and the perception of others towards me.

agree with this completely...

and twistedlink.. the 0.1% leftover care has to do with the girth in me pantalones muahahha.

wise man once told me... the only reason to do curls... is for the girls...

so now when i'm doin' bi's, i just tellmyself "curls for the girls".. they really do like big hard arms. i don't know why, but i don't care... i just give them what they want haha

You're not going to be able to bench 400 pounds and still look really weak. You will still look big or at least strong. Basically with strength comes at least some size.

I am 212lbs, not sure about the BF%, around 12-13%. I don't max out usually, but squat 315 for 5x5, deadlift 355x5 and I don't bench, but l did bench 300lbs for 1 rep.

Forgot the height: 5'10".

They're all made up David.  He's Steven Hawkings I'm telling you.  That's why he's always going on about space travel, and physics, and all that.
