Finally rented this on my Apple TV Saturday night. I wish I had read this thread first -could've saved myself $5 Smile

Jeziz, what a stupid movie. About the only thing that impressed me was how they managed to depict NYC utterly abandoned. Aside from that, the CGI zombies were laughably stupid-looking. WTF?? Is there some reason other than Will Smith sucking up the entire acting payroll why they couldn't use real people with makeup? It's like I've always said about Star Wars: Yoda was twenty-times more believable as a rubber puppet than he was as a digital construct. But directors just don't get that anymore.

I liked the premise of a viral cure for cancer going horribly haywire -something I'd expect Michael Crichton to write. And I'm perfectly happy with movies where everyone dies in the end. It's just too bad this one couldn't be one of those movies. How many times do we have to see this retarded "We blew everything up and everyone dies... almost" crap? War of the Worlds (and, yes, I know that was H.G. Wells' fault, not a studio), Deep Impact, Waterworld, Armageddon, Independence Day, Titan A.E., etc, etc... Give me a small break.

Will someone with some balls please make a movie depicting human extinction without the tidy "colony of survivors" B.S. ending??

I agree.

Ever watch the 2004 Dawn of the Dead? The survivors are pretty much screwed at the end there.

I hear the book was pretty good. A lot different from the movie of course. Instead of zombie like creatures. The virus kind of turned them into a race of vampires, who were creating there own society, and remained pretty intellectual.

Will smiths character is actually held on trial for crimes against the vampire people, and that lady with the son he meets in the movie. Is actually a vampire chick spying on him in the book, but comes to actually find he is a good guy. The book was kind of like, its the end of the human era and the beginning of this new vampire race...or so I have been told.

I liked the movie, I thought will smith did a pretty good job especially with the emotional state he was going through being the only human with no other human contact.

In the movies people like to see unbelievable sacrifice, and the human race triumphing over everything. How we can adapt to anything, its not so bad sometimes.

I really liked the new dawn of the dead, you dont necessarily know if they all really do get ****ed or not, but it certainly leaves that impression.

The real book is about a vampire race?  Seriously?  I would fxcking read that, and write them a letter telling them that's a badass plot and they shouldn't have strayed from it.

Yeah. They remember all the stuff from previous lives. Like his best friend comes and yells at him from his front yard.

He also isn't an educated doctor. He is a factory worker kind of thing.

Damnit, that's even MORE retarded! Why not get on the radio and announce to all the zombies where the survivors are? I liked it better when Will blew himself up.

Here's another stupid ponderable: if they're so strung out and starving and crazy, why haven't they turned on each other?

Man. That's a couple hours of my life up in smoke.

Just to let everyone know, I just bought the book, and it's infinitely better than the movie.  It's also VERY different.

If ya post anything about the book that might ruin it please put "Spoiler" or something. I plan on getting the book, but want to keep following this thread...

_____________________________

I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: 'I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept His claim to be God.' That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic -- on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg -- or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.

WIth the exception of the "survior" colony.. which I did not like either, for hollywood, thye did not pander to the lowest comon denominator. Really they didn't, other wise it would have been a whole nother movie, with a much more sappier plot line, with the hero living, that would have annoyed the crap out of me.

I soo agree with the bold, especially the underline.

However the (I guess I have been ruined by current movies), It could have been so much worse, I expected it to be rediculous CGI over the top CGI, and it wasn't it was spasely done. That is even evident from some of the earier posts in this thread. The" why didn't they use more badass CGI special effects" (loosly quoted)

SO I guess that is why I enjoyed it as much, I kept thinking about how it could have been done worse, I expected it to be done worse. I expected lowest comon denominator,

Finished the book and let me say, I think the only reason they named the movie I am Legend is because Will Smith was the last person alive.

If you gave the movie a 3/10 you'll give the book a 10/10.  It took me about an hour and a half to read, and it's only like 175 pages?  Maybe 200.

The ending is abrupt, and the book I got came with all Mathesons other short stories, which I didn't know.

So I was reading and the story right after I am Legend was called Buried Talents.

Actually that was only 6 or 8 pages, but it was a good read.

It's about some guy in a dark suit that plays a carnival game where you throw ping pong balls into fishbowls, and he gets like 15 balls in the same bowl, and then leaves and the guy running the game died from internal bleeding.

So as you can imagine, I was reading that and thinking to myself "What the fxck?  Is the book missing pages?!"

Then I read the next one and it hit me.

The book was tits though.

The head zombie smears his hands on the glass room they're in and it looks like a butterfly, then you hear his daughter say something about butterflies, and then he opens the glass, and strolls the cured zombie out, and gives her to them, and they all leave.
