Well this post is a classic example of how you're guessing at someone's training technique and placing judgement on it.  I"m not in the gym all the time.. I train 3-4 days weekly for 45 to 60 minutes tops.. You said you think I'm over-training?  What exactly is your definitiion of over-training?  Because after that statement, I'm fairly sure you have no idea what it is?

As far as adding half an inch to your arms..My friend, that is purely diet.  For the average male, it's takes 15 pounds of solid muscle to equate to 1 inch on the Bi.. So with that said, you managed to gain 7 1/2 pounds of solid muscle, naturally within a 30 day period?  Not to be insulting but I'm affraid I'm going to have to throw out the bullshit card on that one.. Either that or you have grossly miscalculated your gains... I'm not saying it's impossible but for someone who has been training for over 20 years.. it's highly un-likely..

Yes i stll make gains on my bench  every year. Not bad for 185 pounds benching 410 and almost 420.I'am not saying your working out wrong but i did the ame thing myself by working out alot and yeah i was getting results but not much. When i cut back to working out once a week bodypart.Presto i got more results.
I'am not that was my bench program but i tried every bench routine i could find and i have hundereds of bodybulding and powerlfting books and it is the best routine i ever found.I been around the best in powerlifting anthony clark dave waterman niko huslander etc.So i know what i'am doing and i been working out for 20 years myself.
Not knocking your routine but in my opinion your overtraining. My new arm routine i gained a half inch on my arm in a month so i guess it must be working.I'am always getting stroger all the time on all my exercises.I just don't beleive you have to be in the gym all the time. The stronger i get the more it takes for me to recover.
By the way how much are  you putting on your bench every year?I put on my bench about 10 pounds a year. Not bad for over 400 at less than 190.

I only saw one problem with swackys post..

Swacky you don't have to get stronger to get bigger and at 185lbs that should be obvious Smile think about how many guys who are sitting at 205 - 210lbs at 8% BF who can't even bench past 315lbs yet they are much bigger then your self.

Aside from that,  I am going to give your routine a try sqacky,  I have never tried using that little reps before it could be interesting.. and for 6 sets.. with the lower reps your muscles are not getting tired as easily making it much easier to push to your max potential every set.    What you wrote is actually a great ideah!   when I get a little bit bigger I will switch over to your routine because right now I am still training for hypertrophy.

The problem with your advice is.. the original poster isn't anywhere near benching 400lbs..?? Also, I agree, the bench program is probably ok..for me the reps are too low.. I respond better to higher reps for both strength and hypertrophy..

I think it's great you want to share your wealth of knowledge but you may want to consider toning it down a bit and stop telling someone they're over-training.. I"m 45 years old.. and my mom passed away.. I don't need another one to take her place... throwing aroung un-waranted advice such as that lowers your credibilty.. I'm not even the OP.. If I need advice about my routine.. I have plenty of regulars here I feel comfortable asking and taking their advice..

If you're who you say you are.. you've obviously made some nice accomplishments.. but now that you've told everyone who you are  and how much you can bench.. lets give it a rest.. Fair enough?

Sorry about your mom. That bench routine worked for alot of people that haven't benched 400 pounds.I put alot of people on it at the health club i go to and everybody has gained on it.
The last person that tried it was a 17 year old kid that was stuck at 275 and he wanted to bench 330 before he graduated and he did on that routine.Sorry if i sound overbearing but was just trying to help.
Also put one of friends on it and he went from 240 to 300 in 6 months.
Not saying it's the best bench routine but does work. Not saying it will work for everybody but at least give a try if you want to increase your bench.I apolgize to everybody but git pretty peeved when people say i lie about who iam.

Swacky==I agree with what you're saying about training almost 100%.  But like a lot of short strong guys who know a lil about what they're talking about, you came off a lil strong.(I'm 5'6" and 213lbs max. 355lbs for the bench)  Credibility seems to be at a premium here. ANd now that I think about it, its probably why no one responded to MY post requesting a critique of my training.
I personally think that the GROUP needs to recognize that there are some really strong people out here.  My son  and I are willing to verify our lifts for ANYONE in the Philadelphia Area Esp thehardwaySmileSmile--the only catch is that you get us in your gym on our chest day...lol
BTW our chest day is usually TuesSmileSmile

Teehe Smile, thanks gentlemen, just caught that.

There is not a single thing suspicious about your posts.

Read what I said in the what do you bench thread, that will explain at least from my perspective why Swanky got the response he did. To me all his post just don't add up (from the four threads he posted in especially for a serious natural powerlifter). It might sound weird but we have had a few imposters before (100% proven, not conjecture).

But I certainly have been wrong in the past, and there is nothing preventing me from beiing wrong now or in the future for that matter.

Yikes, thats is two more Philly boys on this forum.

Hardway.. you  were right on line.. I've never in my life met a competing power lifter, especially one in his 30's who would even admit to buying a book by Greg Valentino detailing how to get bigger bi's.. That's laughable..

Having a visibly bigger bi is about the last thing a competing power lifter is interested in.. I'm sure some of the 15 year olds on here that have only been training 3 months would eventually catch that one..

But when you immediately start posting who you are, how much you can lift and how much experience you have and all the famous lifters you mingle with... Well.. that leaves you open for suspicion.. But who knows..... maybe he was serious.. I know If I were going to pretend to be someone it wouldn't be Dan Swackhammer????

sounds like you're on the right track, and have lots of options available to you...

just remember, all you're doing is training your muscle fibers (slow twitch, and fast twitch).  you're just getting your muscles used to the weight.  It very rarely involves "getting stronger" but.. that is usually how it is presented.

I'm in a slump myself right now.

My advice to you is to start doing chest twice a week if possible.   work out your triceps HARD, they need to be strong for bench.

Once you get to 6 reps on a certain weight, Add 2.5 lbs to each side of the bar.  In a week or so... once you've gotten used to the extra 5 lbs, and when you find yourself doing 6 reps with the new weight, add 5 more lbs...
Just slowly climb the ladder, and also.. keep in mind, it's just getting used to the weight.

goodluck
