ORIGINAL: mr. 209 my advice is to use this as motivation. when youve got your six pack and 22 inch arms, rub it in your dads face. if you keep it up for years, you wont have a beerbelly like most dads. alot of people wont make it to 22 inch arms.. its sad but true.. genetics has a good part in body building.. but you can always bulk and cut to your genetic limits and have perfect symetry... there is nothing wrong with that.

You're near 20% bf and your parents think you're too thin and try to make you eat more? What's wrong with them? I can't believe some people think it's "unhealthy" to have a low bf %. The general populations idea of what's healthy and many other things is just so skewed it's unbelievable.

The thing that makes me REALLY mad is when my mom talks to members of my family, who have no idea what they're talking about, about the supplements I take. My mother also has no idea what Animal Pak, or Exceed does, and she thinks protein shakes are supposed to wake you up. Anyway she'll say things like "he's taking these things to make him gain muscle, I think it's steroids" then they'll walk over to me and want to inspect my body, and I have a little bit of acne on my back (my doctor says it's from increased test levels from working out, and it goes away with time) and they go AH HA STERIODS!!!!!! Bunch of retards.

My mum's urging me to not get bigger than I am now because she reckons it'd be unattractive, other than that she acknowledges that she can't do anything about my decisions and goals. I love my mummy. :p

yeah all this pisses me off laughing at my grocery list saying the supps i want will be negative in my future even though they have no f****** clue. I'm the best athlete in the grade and they show no pride what so ever. people think our lives are easy and joke about saying were on roids but they have no f****** what we put ourselves through the money we spend to be healthy because supply and demand of healthy in the United states of obesity. the food we refuse to eat that tastes so good. the supps we choke down. the iron that we throw around that defines who we are, Brothers and Sisters were the ELITE. the one percent of the world that does what we do. thats why were so hardened and dangerous, they fear us of what we are and what we'll become.

wow, I'm late to this thread. makes me sad and frustrated at the same time. for all you guys (and women!) who have decided to make a positive difference--YAY! Go for it! Keep on the path. At the same time, love your parents. They are human. As a friend of mine said the other day, the only thing that prevented them from putting you on the front doorstep when you were that obnoxious baby was that they loved you to death. (He has 7 month twins, and is still sleep deprived). If they don't know what the supplements you're using are, show them, educate them (patiently, w/o attitude). If the grocery bill becomes onerous (hell, I didn't lift when I was a teenager, and my parents still worried about the food bill), try and help out, even if that means just $20 once in awhile, or doing something extra around the house. If they're mocking you or your goals (are they really? Maybe your impression is wrong, or maybe they are being insensitive--that human thing again), ignore them. You've done plenty to piss them off in the past, so just think of it as a little justified payback. Don't "rub" your success in their faces or up their asses. Your body will show the results of your dedication. If they still don't get it, oh well, change the topic.

Great thread. My father hated the idea about me going to the gym, then I started going 5 days a week, he also hated that. He told me I was was focusing too much on something that didn't matter. After a while, he realized this helped me focus on other dimensions of my life as well. I got more serious about school, work, family, etc. He then started paying for my protein and buying me food. As he saw my body change as well as my attitude, he decided he needed a change as well. I started cooking meals for the both of us, he started walking and lifting free weights again and I feel that things are going pretty well. In this past year my mindset has changed so much, hes now very happy that my friend got me into working out, cleaning up my diet, etc.

I had the same situation with my parents too. I wasn't fat but I always had that stomach and a little fat on the side (you might call it chubby). My mom always told me that I'll be one of those people with belly sticking out when they're old and I'll never be fit, mostly because I ate everything there was to food. At 16 I started working out I saw progress and so did my parents, well now they are proud of me and I'm not that chubby guy anymore. So, forget what everyone says and stick to what you think you can and want to do/achieve.

Being a parent of 4 kids.. two girls and two boys.. I certainly understand how it's frustrating from the parents side when one of your kids gets a wild idea and dives head first into something.. but I have to admit.. I'm a little shocked when I hear these stories about your parents being against your decision to weight train and eat healthy... This is totally bizarre??? Now with that said.. some of the crap you guys post on here it's obvious you're not little angels that go around drinking whey shakes and sipping olive oil between workouts..and possibly you're not telling the entire story regarding why your parents are giving you a hard time.. Often parents use something they know you really want against you in a way to retaliate back against you.. I know if I found out any of my minor children posted some of the stuff that's been posted in out of bounds.. DBB.com would be history for them, period, end of story... Weight training and a healthy diet is great.. I'm sure this isn't the case for everyone but unless you're parents live that same lifestyle.. it would sure be an easy way for them to get under your skin when you're doing other things that they don't approve of.. and reading throught the out of bounds forum.. I can clearly see alot of that goes on.. Although I totally disagree with this and think it's a horrible thing to do.. some parents don't see it that way and take the easy way out and chose to make things more difficult by giving you a hard time over something they know you really enjoy.. like weight training and eating healthy.. I think it's all about meeting in the middle.. as long as you're a minor and living under their roof.. you have to comply with their wishes.. if you want to keep your healthy lifesytle and continue to train.. try to comply with their wishes.. and make it a win win situation... Although this may not apply to all of you guys.. I'm sure it does to some..

my advice is to explain it and if they still ignore you and make fun of u then focus on your training and get jacked and then they'll shut up for good and start praising u... and evry1'll ask u for tips...

i showed off yesterday in front of my dad, my friend, and my grandfather. my grandpaw was trying to pull some wire fence type stuff out of the ground. my dad and i were watching him struggle. he made a loud noise, then told me to hook up the chain on back of the lawnmower and pull it out the ground. (you see, my dad and i clean my grandpaw's yard b/c he jus doesnt care bout it anymore. it is in need of major cleaning!) so i try to see if i can pull it out the ground. then half of it comes out b/c i pull it so hard my dad says, yea lets see what all that working out has done for you! then my grandfather says, jus pretend ur at the gym. lol i keep pullin and pullin and it eventually all comes out. they look at me like i would be tired and all red in the face. but i wanted to do more. then my dad says sumthing bout me being a mule or something. lol so they see how i am stronger and sh!t. i do more stuff than my dad does! he must feel bad. i use to always ask him for help to lift something, now he asks me for help! ha ha!
