low carb? - Wednesday, April 18, 2007 10:42 AM
Hello everyone, just bumped in here for a few, i have recently started a modified atkins plan to shed some body fat my carbs are net 100 focusing on vegetables for my carbs at meals and steal cut oats before and after workouts and my off day breakfast.

Here is my journal: www.itrainharder.com/Profile/gizmonel i just started this today.

I dont want to lose weight and do plan on increasing calories with proteins and fats.

Basically i am following Berardis 90/10% rule for my meals with about 2-4 free meals a week (average its been about 2)

Can this style of eating be sustained while lifting heavy 3 times a week? I know it can be as my workout nutrition is good but just wondering.

Right now i am 157 lbs and want to maintain between 150-160 lbs.

How can you not lose weight, if you are planning to lose body fat? Doesn't make sense.

I would recommend you not to do low carbs, and also not to follow the Atkin's diet, even if your's is slightly modified. Did you know that Atkins diet from a heart attack? You won't be able to sustain that sort of diet also for the long term, so I suggest doing for something that is healthy and which you can sustain for long terms.

Read this article.

Vdk_au my diet is not loaded with atkins like foods which are greasy etc. I also think a person can stay about same weight and lose fat.

I'm currently doing a research on Atkin's diet. Been amazed at the numerous amounts of diseases that arise from this diet. I knew it was bad before but never that bad....

Lowcarbs result in  weight loss yes but weight loss mainly from muscles and water. Soon after the diet ends, you'll find yourself putting back more weight then before because now you'll have less muscles then when u started and since muscles are the body's metabolism engine, less muscles means your body won't be able to burn off the fat efficiently. Also, Dr. Atkins suffered from obesity and heart diseases before his death so his works are quite ironic in my opinion. Also, due to lack of carbs, your body will not have enough nutrients such as potassium(from fruits , potatoes, etc.which is highly important for everyone.

Before creating a proper nutritional diet for myself i went on lowcarb lousy diets, eating about 100g of carbs only. At first, i was happy everytime i saw my weight decrease on the weighing scale. However, after getting down to a certain size i found myself looking skinnyfat which is worse then before when i had muscles and fat. Therefore my advise is Don't Go On a LOWCARB diet!

Yes a person can lose fat and gain muscle at the same time but if you don't give yourself enough carbs, then forget about gaining muscles

No.

Not unless they gain muscle mass at the same rate of fat loss which isn't likely to happen on a calorie defict diet.

Oh really?

On April 8, 2003, at the age of 72, Dr. Atkins was walking to work in New York, when he slipped on the ice and hit his head. At the Weill-Cornell Medical Center, on April 17, 2003, he died from complications from head trauma caused by his fall.

how about doing a little research on the topic of ketogenic dieting before making blanket statement like you wont be able to sustain your diet, or do something healthy.  Implying high fat diets are not

I really felt great yesterday on this veggie, meat and fat plan. I really did not feel a difference in strength with yesterdays workout.

I will rotate between steel cut oats, brown rice, butternutand yam for breakfast. :D

Are you serious? I recommend you not make suggestions when you don't know what are talking about.

Then how are you expecting to lose fat?

If your body isn't in a state of calorie deficiency then you won't lose anything, not to mention losing fat whilst maintaining your bodyweight.

I recommend you elaborate, as there's nothing wrong with the question.

he does know what hes talking about because its nearly impossible to lose fat and gain muscle at the exact same time unless your a complete beginner.

as far as the low carb diets i wouldnt suggest keeping it too low if ur going to stay at the same wieght for along time because if the carbs are really low (like only 30-100g a day) its harder to stay with that diet, u can become irritable, and carbs that low are normally just for getting really lean, not maintaining
