How cool is that? Awesome! quote:
ORIGINAL: jheft No real drastic changes in stats, but definitely a visible change. I'm maybe 2-3 pounds heavier than my most recent set of pictures (with both some bulking and some cutting in the interim), but I'm probably a couple percentage points leaner in terms of body fat percentage.

Hehe. I can let you know that I failed on a couple of attempts at 175x1 on Monday. Also, I've got a couple new pictures to post later tonight - just have to get them edited and cropped and stuff.

Busy again tonight, but tomorrow I've got nothing going on, so I'm moving my chest workout to then so it doesn't get cut short like last week.

I wasn't BSing. I don't look for excuses to delay chest day, it's my second favorite day. Next week might be tricky though (flying up North on Thursday morning and won't be back until the 2nd).

Results on Bench for 2007-12-21: Flat: 60x15 (warm-up), 130x11, 145x4, 145x3 DB Incline: 20x15 (warm-up), 25x15, 40x6, 40x6 Switched to dumbbells for incline, and lowered the incline by one notch to put a little less emphasis on my shoulders. 25 pounds isn't much, I know, but I'm not even sure I could do 30x15... Even if I could, I'd like to leave a little room for progression. The 40x6 felt just right.

Failed on a couple more attempts at 175 on bench over the past few days, so I settled for doing 170 again to verify I still could. I'm out of time to get to my goal of 180... It's a little depressing, because I've met very few goals I've set for myself this year. Starting to get a little burned out. I've fallen off my diet a little more than usual. Yesterday after my workout I just got so hungry and ordered a pizza and just ate the whole thing. I have to go a bit faster each time I take my bike out in order to maintain the same heart rate, so I'm also going a bit further each time. I pass a Burger King on the way, and recently I started going past a Sonic. They have those cheesecake bite things they keep advertising, and they don't even look all that tasty... But by that point in my workout I just want to eat everything in sight. I want to get in one more chest workout before my vacation, so I'll have to cram in my exercise days before my flight Thursday morning. It'll end up being 5 days of lifting in a 6 day span. Then a full week off. I'm going to be off creatine while I'm on vacation, so I'm gonna stop taking it now. I want to get off it completely for about 4 weeks, so that I can get a real idea of how strongly I respond to it when I go back on.

Maybe you should try something from the New Rules book. I did this one hypertrophy based routine and I found that my gains in chest strength were beyond exceptional! In about 8 weeks I added 15-20lbs to my Bench Press. The workout was an A, B, A, B workout, where you have 2 workouts but you do 3 workouts per week. Week 1 - A, B, A Week 2 - B, A, B Workout B involved Chest. B1. Incline DB Press - 5x5 B2. Incline DB Press - 4x10 B3. Incline DB Press - 3x15 And just from that, I got awesome strength gains. Maybe try something like that, experiment with the idea. Just a suggestion from experience.

I am going to look for a new routine as soon as I'm finished with IBB's bench program - I've got NROL on my Amazon wish list, so that's a candidate. I'll also be looking at Rippetoe's routines -- brihead301 was telling me that Starting Strength could go a long way toward fixing my squat. I've basically added 50 pounds onto my bench with it so far in about 8 weeks on the first half of IBB's program. I know I should probably be happy with those sorts of gains, but my bench was so weak to begin with, that it's still pretty weak even after gains like that. I was thinking maybe doing an HST type routine when I get into the second part of IBBs program, cause it seems like I might be able to meld the two.

if i fall off my diet at all, its usually from something unrelated to it-like pressure from school, worrying about things, feeling down, etc. that happened to me over thanksgiving week, just took the week basically off, did some light work but nothing from my routine. laid out a new program, came back better than before...spent the time reading starting strength, which i highly recommend, especially if you are having issues with squatting-superior descriptions especially for squats, really helped me improve my form. about creatine-i dont necesarrily notice it make me stronger, i notice thatit helps with endurance to some degree, and also i get pumped like crazy and bloat for awhile, then the bloating subsides some but i still get really pumped...i do notive a difference when i dont take it from when i do, i can say that much your bench has come along nicely, its probably to the point where increasing is gunna get much slower, so just bear with it. its my weak point too, i inch along on that and my back seems to get stronger from nothing..which appears to be the case with you too, at least with deadlifts the view im starting to take on diet is that if i ever feel like eating something that is off of my diet, i ask myself why? what is the point in eating it? why do i want to eat it?...theres usually a reason that is distinct from hunger, either emotional or boredom or because its there and other people are eating it, is it going to be better to cheat a little now rather than blow up later? etc...i have some leniency with my diet, since im bulking and lean towards being an ecto, so i will cheat in little amounts here and there, which i can justify as a way to keep sanity haha...not much, but here and there to keep from limiting myself and leading to a big binge or something...which ive had a lot of in the past, so its taken learning the hard way, but it is important to do that (at least imo) so that you dont go nuts or anything take a break, stick it out, and youll be fine man

The holidays are stressful and are certainly part of it. But I'm cutting right now, so at times I do get pretty hungry. Especially during my cardio after lifting. It's been a while since my pre-workout shake, and a really long time since my last real meal. I was gonna just take a week off from my diet (without going too crazy) while I was out of town, so I've been trying to avoid major cheats before leaving. I did notice a change when I first went on creatine; it seemed like I was able to keep my strength up for those last couple sets a bit more easily without feeling quite so tired at the end of the workout. I didn't really have much noticeable "bloat", but it did seem to add about 3 pounds of water weight. My back does progress easily, not just deadlifts. With bent-over rows, I can just sorta add weight whenever I want to. I don't have huge leaps in strength, but it never plateaus. Just consistent, steady progress.

Nice! 130 x 11 thats good stop rushing it though your doing good. not hitting 180 is not a set back who cares the goal was a bit high anyways. 135 x 10 would be really nice if you could do it.. 140 x 8 would be cool once you get to that start the other routine I gave you and that should push you up another 20lbs onto your max bench probably throwing you around 190 - 200lbs.

btw - let me know if your family can see the change in your physique. That is if you see some family that you have not seen for a while.

Since I've reached a working weight with bench that makes me reasonably happy, I'm not gonna worry about 1 rep maxes for a while, until I've added on quite a bit more to my working weight. Yeah, I'm gonna be seeing a lot of people I haven't seen for a year, family and college friends and stuff. If they don't notice the change, I'm gonna take all of them to the ophthalmologist. I had people at work who noticed a change about 3 or 4 months in, and they were seeing me every day, which tends to hide the change a bit. Everyone would ask me if I'd lost weight, even though at that point I was bulking and had added like 15 pounds. I was going to move my Wednesday back workout to today, then do chest tomorrow, but I'm just not up for it today, so I'm just going to skip the back workout, since I'm so busy and tired; I'm overdue for a break anyway.

Good job with the gains. I'm currently doing IBB's plateau breaker with Bench Press, Deadlifts, Squats, Rows and Military Press. I'll tell you how that goes in case I get awesome strength gains from it. lol

Results on Bench for 2007-12-26: Flat: 60x15 (warm-up), 135x9, 150x3, 150x2 DB Incline: 20x15 (warm-up), 27x15, 42x6, 42x6 I wanted to keep my heavier sets 15 pounds over my "main" set until the end of the routine, but two or three reps is not enough. It seems silly to make it only 5-10 pounds heaver than my main set, but I'm not sure what else to do. But barring some sudden surge in strength, there's only one week left in the program anyway. I followed the workout with just a couple minutes of "cool-down" cardio instead of a full hour session like I have been doing, since I have to pack and have an early flight in the morning.
