Yes, that's me in my avatar, and NO, I don't look like that today. That was taken back in Jan '07, and I lost most of that progress when I slacked off last year. I'm on my way back, tho, and I'm using that photo for inspiration.

Ok, I'm back. As described, this week I'm doing high-intensity training, but keeping one rep in the hole. The range rep is still 6-9, but should be aiming more for 6 than 9. Next week is all out to failure--I'm kind of looking forward to it. It's not so hard to guess when failure happens, whereas trying to stop 1 shy allows for too much cheating (IN THEORY!). Date: 02/05/2007 Day 1 Set 1 Set 2 Set 3 Incl dbl press 9 x 40 7 x 45 6 x 50 Flat bench mach 14 x 90 8 x 120 5 x 140 Flyes 22 x 15 11 x 30 3 x 35 Stdng calf RL only 10 x 45 9 x 55 6 x 65 Std calf RL only 7 x 25 9 x 25 6 x 30 Comments: The last set of flyes hurt. I didn’t think I had done much, but DOMS has started this evening. Yes, I know it doesn’t mean anything, but it still makes me feel like I did something!

Sorry it's been awhile for an update. One update on Phase I: significant growth on chest, some on legs, not much elsewhere, but I'll take the chest stuff! However, fat is up, too. I'm displeased about this. I've added intervals to the end of my routine, 3 days/week. Because it's been awhile, I'm working up to the guerilla cardio ideal. On a brighter note, I'm not quite as out-of-shape, cardio-ly, as I thought, so cool beans on that. Ok, next posts will be the workouts for the remainder of week 1 of phase II.

I used the pre-loaded barbells and the floor. Turned out it was ok, not perfect, anyway, but STILL!

Had a four hour orchestra rehearsal yesterday (what a killer--my back was screaming from DOMS) and today is the concert, and my arms, of course, are feeling pretty bad with DOMS. I guess it's an ibuprofen day! Oh yeah, in case you're in Chicago and are feeling like you need a dose of Classical (yeah yeah), here are the details: SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2007 - 3:00 p.m. Preston Bradley Hall, The Cultural Center 78 East Washington Street at Michigan Avenue Free Admission THE CLASSICAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA Stravinsky - Petrushka (1947 version) Brahms - Symphony No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 68 Joseph Glymph, conductor See you there!

i should know this, but what instrument do you play? I enjoy classical as well. My violin studies gave me a distinct appreciation for it.

i don't get much of a chance any longer. I played in a fantastic orchestra in high school, didn't want to try out for the good orchestras at MSU, and sat in a few times with their open orchestra, which blew monkey balls... i felt like i was in 6th grade again. So i hadn't played in years until this summer, when a few buddies of mine started an indie folk band, so we played together for a while, then fell apart. Now i have begun playing guitar... taking both classical and non-classical lessons. I'm learning to love segovia. my violin was a piece of crap, although as its aged the sound is a bit more resonant. I'd certainly be up for a dbb string quartet though. ha ha ha.

yeah, no good. The most amusing part of it was, my girlfriend at the time actually bothered to try out in that orchestra for seating. She took 1st chair 1st violin. Because i refused to try out, and my last name falls quite near the end of the alphabet, i was last chair 2nd violin. According to the conductor, we were the only 2 violins audible in the mess that was going on around us. 2nd best violin in the orchestra, playing last chair. quite a riot.
