16 y.o. need help w/ supplements - Sunday, December 17, 2006 2:14 AM
I work out 4-5 times per week, isolating 1 muscle per exercise, i use proper techniques and all, but i want some supplements because i SEE no gains, but i feel them and its pissing me off because ive lost all motivation to work out anymore. well anyway Ive tried Higher Power Creatine, i didnt see results at all. I'm debating between these 3 supplements... BSN NO-Xplode and Nitrix....OR...Superpums 250. OR if you have any othere suggestions for immediate results please say so. IF YOUR GOING TO SAY "NO NEED FOR SUPPLEMENTS JUST EAT HEALTHY" THEN DONT POST ANYTHING BECAUSE I DONT NEED TO HEAR THAT OVER AND OVER AGAIN

check out the nutrition and training sections first. supplements shouldn't be used unless ur diet and training routines are pristine. post your workouts and diet and then ill give you some tips.

woops didn't see that last bold line...still you can use supps just make sure you eat right and have a good workout routine first. if your not getting gains without supps.....somethings wrong.

We can't help you if you don't tell us what you are doing for exercises.  For mass, compound exercises are best.  Isolation movements are good finishers.  The food and supps you ingest need to be taken at the right times to be of any use.  Make sure you get your 1 - 1.5 g of clean protein, like whey after exercising, and that you have a complex carb before workouts so that your energy levels stay up for your routine.  Try cassein protein (cottage cheese low fat varieties) before bed to keep your body from digesting muscle gains.
Give it time, even the gifted BB only gets 15 to 25 pounds in their first year, and it goes down from there.  If you have been doing it for over a year, don't expect more than a pound or two a month.

RE: 16 y.o. need help w/ supplements - Sunday, December 17, 2006 11:03 AM
my diet is as follows: Breakfast i have a protein shake mixed with some berries
Snack: is 2 hours later, and i have Bar Naked Granola with an apple and almonds
Lunch:this is tricky because i go to school, i try to get in a rotiserie chicken w/ potatoes whenever i can leave school early, but i get stuck with a salad w/ chicken
Snack: Sodium free turkey breast with either some healthy crackers or if im really craving it a peice of bread
Dinner: Organic foods mostly chicken or beef or just a normal dinner that is healthy

I workout between lunch and snack.

My workout consists of mostly drop-down training so whenever i feel fatigue i drop the weight a little w/ no rest inbetween
Either that or I keep going up on weight w/ less reps
Mondays:chest     Tuesday:back         Wendsday shoulders/hamstrings       Thursday: biceps/triceps

I try to get in cardio as much as i can around 3-4 times per week

A normal back workout for me consists of : spread arms lat pulldown, together hands lat pull down, 2 sets of pulls ups with the machine that helps you do them, Rows, I work on traps to, Theres more stuff but i forget the names, basically i go till the point of fatigue and i cant go anymore.       is that more clear now?

since it seems this question is to complex, here is a much easier one that i would be very happy if people could answer. ---Can i take Superpump250 w/ BSN Nitrix safly? or is Superpumps 250 good enough by itself

make sure u get enough protein and maybe try the bsn mass stack. its pretty simple to figure out and generally produces good results. i think just about everyone has tried it.

sssammm123, you tell us to not post about getting your diet to scratch, but how are expecting to gain, if it isn't? No supplement in the world is gonna get you there. You need to eat above your maintaince level, which means you need to eat big to get big! Also basing on your experience, I would say you need to base your training around compound exercises such as deadlifts, squats, rows, military press, and remove those useless isolation exercises for the moment.

Try this -> http://www.discussbodybuilding.com/m_120872/mpage_1/key_Natural%2cMass/tm.htm#195340

BTW, I just noticed that you were asking suggestions on supplements like creatine etc, yet, if you were asking about weight gainers, although I don't agree with them, it would have made more sense. Obviously those supplements won't help you. You are not seeing gains because you are not eating enough, and don't say all this crap that you are, because even if your training is not up to scratch, you will be gaining weight if your diet is up to scratch. All I'm trying to do is knock some sense into you that having a crap diet + loads of supplements won't help, but if that's the road you want to travel, then do that. Hope you take the advice on board.

thanks for the positive critisim, could u just help me with 1 thing though. the major reason for bad diet is because of school, its hard to get good food when stuck as school for 7 hours daily without being able to leave. If you could, can u plz make some suggestion for that? i would truly appreciate it. But i truly disagree that isolation is bad, because my lifts are all going up  and i feel fullness, just no more size which is nutrition based as u said. And the reason i ask for supplements is because i just want to attempt  them to see if i they will make a diffrence because if it does that would help me out alot.

Yea, I'm glad you took my advice on board. Well for me I go to uni, and instead of buying outside food, I usually bring my own food. I'm sure there would be like a microwave or something in the common room (if one exists), you can use it to heat your food. Usually I bring stir fry food such as chicken or beef, with veggies, with some rice. If this isn't possible, you could bring sandwitches, with salads, and chicken. Or if you want, tell your parents to make extra for dinner, and you can always bring that food to school (hoping of course it's not KFC, or something alone those lines) You can also bring nuts, dried fruits, even cereal (but make sure it's low in sugar) if you wanted to!

Try reading this article on dieting
http://www.discussbodybuilding.com/m_111173/mpage_1/tm.htm

BTW, I would say give that routine I posted earlier a go. But I would recommend going for 3x8 for a few months to get the form/pace going. If you are not familiar with some of the exercises, I would recommend getting someone who knows their stuff to show u, or check your form

And in relation to supplements, I would say get your diet first up to scratch, and maybe later down the road, start experimenting with different supps, but for the moment, just stick to havin a good diet. For me being an ectomorph I find it hard to gain weight, but even from a having a good diet without supps, I have gained 8kg since july, which i consider damn good.

I think what he's saying is he's losing motivation. In that case I would recommend you try a pre workout supplement like satur8, vassive-no, xceed. etc. Something with arganine to give you a better pump maybe and the stimulants like caffeine couldn't hurt. The creatine would help you get some more mass too.

Also make sure you're supplying your muscles with bcaas at the right time like drinking whey right after your workouts.

As I suggested before, I don't think he should be taking any supplements unless if his seeing results with his current diet. I am a very strong believer of having a good diet. I guarentee him that once he get's diet on track, he will be seeing results!

odw77, sure those supplements may help him get more energy during the workout, but unless if he puts enough food inside him, it's not going to help. And anyways, it's better to tell him now then later, when he has spent heaps of money on supplements realising that they do no good for him.

The reason I say this is because I have being in his footsteps and am still learning. Infact, I could say I have it worst. Being an ectomorph, having crohn's disease, and being at 47kg/103.4lbs in july and now at 121lbs from having a good diet, I can say that if I can do it, anyone can with just the right diet.
