Countdown to Competition
-
Tuesday, December 12, 2006 6:15 PM
I thought I needed a new log for my four month competition training, to begin next week AFTER finals. I have a month or so off for semester break in which I will be training as intense as I can. I am on the track team now so I have lots of things I will be doing: Lifting, sprinting, and cardio. There will be at LEAST 5 hours between each of these activities, including when the semester starts up again. I have found a lot of articles on bodybuilding.com to help me pace myself and get in the best shape I can possibly be in with the time I have. I have already begun working on flexibility and strength moves for the fitness competition. I am not sure if I will be at competition level by April. but I'll probably give it a go anyway. We all have to start somewhere. When the semester ends, I will take "before" pictures and will take them once every month until competition day. I want to be able to see the progress, not only in the gym, but in the mirror.

As Monday, the first day of my training draws near. I'm getting VERY excited. I'm spending time in which I should be studying looking up competition information and trying to devise a good schedule to train. I also need to really start watching what I'm eating. Let's just say finals week was awful when it comes to diet.

Training will be VERY light until I get back to college. My friend in Balitmore, where I planning to go over semester break, is having bypass surgery. I will not not access to a gym over break. I don't know what I'm going to do. I'm an emotional mess between my friend having a bypass and my school work.

Don't fret too much. He's younger, and those bypass surgeries usually end up with the patient feeling fantastic after healing. Take care of yourself in the meantime, and if that means forcing yourself to eat and exercise right, then, well, do it. Your friend would want you to, and you'll weather the whole thing better.

No workout today. Well, not a formal one. I did move back home, which means three trips up and down the stairs at the dorm, and i live on the fourth floor. My friend is out of surgery and is in stable condition. He had a quadruple bypass. I will hopefully get to talk to him in a few days when he is able to talk. I'm aiming to start the stretching and strength moves tomorrow. I guess I'll have to use my free weights I have at home and do high reps. It's going to be a big difference espeically on the legs. Who uses 10 lbs on each leg??? They really need to make ankle weights heavier.

Okay, so, I finally lifted today. I got a machine for an early Christmas present. I'll take a picture sometime tomorrow. Anyway, I stretched and attempted to practice some of the body holds for the competition after my workout. It went pretty well, considering I haven't stretched in ages. The workout was more difficult than I would have liked. I know I haven't lifted in a while, but, well, it's frustrating to see such a decrease, even knowing it'll come back faster than I originally gained it. 52 mins. Bench Press 40-16-16-16 DB Flys 10-16-16 DB Bent Row 12-16-16-16 DB Shrugs 20-16-16 DB Military Press 12-16-16-16 Chair Dips n/a-16-16-16 DB Curls 12-16-16-16 DB Concentration Curls 15-10-10 DB Wrist Curls 10-16-16-16

Had to use my ankle weights for a lot of exercises. At least I managed to find 10 lbs for each leg instead of the 5 lbs. December 24, 2006 52 mins Calf Raises - 40-20-20-20 Leg Extension - 40-15-15-15 Hamstring Curl - 10-20-20-20 Adductors - 10-20-20-20 Abductors - 10-20-20-20 Deadlifts - 80-10-10-10!!! Side Bends - 10-20-20-20 Crunches - 30-30-30 December 25, 2006 50 mins Bench Press - 60-9-9-9 Pushups - 5-6 DB Lateral Raises - 5-9-9-9 DB Front Raises - 5-9-9-9 Chair Dips - 9-9-9 DB Curls - 15-9-9-9 DB Concentration Curls - 15-9-9 DB Wrist Curls - 15-9-9-9 I'm really surprised at the increase I've seen in my upper body, and my deadlifts. Have had some nice increases and will be interested to see what my deadlift is tomorrow.

It's my off day today, which I spent most of it sleeping. I really need to find something to do to keep me awake during the day. Boredom=sleep and that is not good.
