Starting To Lift - Thursday, June 10, 2004 6:01 PM
I am going to start to lift this Monday. I am buying a weight bench and weights this weekend. I plan on getting this benchand this set of weights I am also going to be following a "work-out plan" I got out of a book called Get Strong, By: Jake Steinfeld .

Do any of you guys know a good diet to follow that will help me loose weight and still gain muscle?

Just watch your Fat &Carb intake and do cardio. And eat at least 6 small meals
a day. And take in 1 gram of protein per: body pound.

It's possible. I think the general consensus in the BBing world is that it is not the most efficient way to go about either.

But newbies and people with good genetics can do both at the same time. (Still haven't figured out which one I am, hoping for #2 )

No, we knew what you meant- It's just hard to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. In order to build muscle, you have to eat a lot of calories every day- And even though you should be eating healthy, clean food, your body will still store some as fat while you pack on the muscle. When you try to lose fat, you basically have to put your body into a calorie deficit- Give it less calories than it needs to maintain your current weight, and it will start to burn the fat as fuel. When you're in a calorie deficit, it's really hard to gain muscle, since you're taking away the building blocks of the muscle itself.
Other than that, the weight bench looks decent- I know you were looking for something that was both affordable and didn't take up too much space. You'll get your money's worth out of it. The weights look nice too- You'll have to let us know what sort of routine that book has you doing.

Instead of doing this I think I am going to make a plan from scratch and workout 4-6 days a week...
Monday: Back and Abs
Tuesday: Shoulders
Wensday: Cardio (HIIT)
Thursday: Legs
Friday: Chest
Saturday: Cardio

Should I do those all in one day? Or should Biceps be with Legs and Triceps with Back and Traps with HIIT???
