Protein Bars.. are they worth it ? - Sunday, November 19, 2006 7:34 PM
I was in a store the other day and saw a ton of Protein bars and found some that i had taken and some new ones. I know Snickers has one out, Cliff Bar, then there are the ones at GNC. What exactly are the differences in these types of bars.. and what are you suppose to look for when purchasing one, there are soo many out there! Good protein amount, sugars, fat, calories, other nutrients..etc ?
I like to have breakfast lunch and dinner, with shakes and my supps when i work-out, but i also like snacks and would love to start having a bar during the day in between meals and classes or at night.. any options, brands or suggestions?

Thanks guys!

I like bars when i cannot get a meal or mrp in. For exmaple i was out of town and brought a box of bars with me and ate them as needed. Depending on the bar some of them will taste really good. In between solid meals are pretty much the best time as most bars will give u plenty of protein, fats an carbs to comprise a meal.

Bars I Like:
ISS Oh Yeah
ISS Oh Yeah Wafer(Low Carb)
DS Sustain
VPX Zero Impact(sits heavy in stomach)

Only thing I don't really like about protein bars is the large amounts of fats and carbs they contain. Unless of course you get low carb protein bars, but they're still somewhat high in fats.

to be honest, the cost of those things is ridiculous.

id rather make my own than buy them, i only earn $150 a week, and if i bought protein bars goodbye social life as well.

They're worth it if you are on the go and do not have time to prepare your meals.  The trick is finding one that is actually worth a darn, because so many have such poor and unhealthy ingredient profiles that do not fit the needs of weightlifters.  I recommend Designer Supplements Sustain Bars or VPX Zero Impact.  Two great bars that are healthy and taste great too.

Looks very high in carbs compared to it's protein level.... I still think you can get better even at GNC. I know ISS's bars are there and DS should be at VS. Even Zero Impact will be there.

Oh I don't claim Marathon bars to be all that healthy, but they're just so darn tasty!
