From www.wikipedia.org World records The previous world record for the heaviest bench press at 1005 lb (456 kg) was set by Gene Rychlak under International Powerlifting Association rules in November 2004. This record was slightly broken. Scot Mendelson pressed 1,008 pounds on his first attempt at the Fit Expo at the 2006 Iron Man Bodybuilding contest on February 18, 2006. It must be noted that the different federations have subtly different rules on technique, the equipment that is allowed and whether performance enhancing drugs are tested for. The heaviest "raw" bench press (without equipment such as denim shirts) is 713 lb (325 kg) by Scot Mendelson. The world record for women's bench press is 551 lb (250 kg), set on August 26, 2006 by Becca Swanson in Daytona Beach at the APF/WPO Debbie Kruck Bench Press Contest. I can't believe a woman benched 551. That's freaking ridiculous!!

didnt you read wiki? It said quite blatantly that they do not take into account of technique. Nearly every guy in the gym i go to benchpresses wrong, they drop the weight real fast, and push it right back up as fast and hard as they can. Sure you can bench big with this, but are you actually stimulating ANY muscle? For mesomorphs, they will grow from this, for hardgainers, they wont. And the simple reason is because benching like that is 50-75% recoil action, your muscles and tendons are like springs, and if youre benching like that youre mostly using your muscles elastic recoil action-not the muscles strength or ability. For strength you need to focus on extremely good form (most powerlifters dont, and do whatever they need to get the weight up, hence why every powerlifter must be a meso, for anyone to get mass with rubbish form is a meso) and these world record holders most blatantly use rubbish form and the most crafty ways possible to lift the weight these people arent the strongest, im pretty sure if you got them to use only there muscles STRENGTH (as in lowering the bar within 2-3 seconds, keeping it there for minimum of 1 seconds and then raising it in 2 seconds) then these lifts would PLUMMET majorly down into a good few hundred pounds. A humans chemical and physical makeup doesnt allow these kind of poundages to be moved via muscle alone, it requires a lot of energy, and most of it is coming from the recoiling elasiticity in muscle, not the muscles strength itself. Cats have tiny muscles and arent strong, they jump bloody high, why? ELASTICITY. So next time you do a super high weight, actually leave your ego to one side and look at your form and timings and actually try to truthfully answer whether you did use ONLY your muscles.

So it doesnt matter whether the muscle is there it matters that weight goes down and weight comes up cept for the dead lift which only needs to go up it doesnt matter about the form. Its called powerlifting for a reason. Sure we are on a body building website but we are in a power lifting section where this kind of form is acceptable so ego hasnt got anything to do with it, lifting heavy in that manner has a purpose. A Reason why deadlifting is a little lower the bench is the that the grip factor is a problem

henry, i know its the powerlifting section, but form still counts here, how do you think your muscles will get stronger? By using crap form and elasticity, or actually using the muscle? Think about it. Im not saying they dont deserve a world record title, they do, that is the max a human has done muscle or not, all im saying is theyre not the strongest people despite there world record lifts, because strength is about how much the muscle can lift, not how elastic someones muscle fibre is. If you continue to bounce the weight, your repping weight will unlikely rise. Even powerlifters have to use form, what you are thinking of is where they just get the weight up as quickly as they can, however if you bounce, or dont use correct form you WILL hurt yourself.

Man i totally agree with dae_light.Those world record powerlifters use perfect form, if they dont they get red lighted and the lift doesnt count, there are many rules in form that must be followed in powerlifting competions so dont say they use crap form. Just watch some IPF videos of powerlifters and youll se what i mean.

ORIGINAL: PD81 here ya go twisted. http://youtube.com/watch?v=MOyjrelkePw why don't you look around a little bit before you open your mouth again. stop making yourself look stupid. ...The spotter is holding the bar for half the downward motion, and the guys chest is so big he has to lower it by about 4 inches LOL. That might be the reason he can bench such high numbers towards the deadlift and squat weights. As to me looking stupid, i do it all the time, every human does, im sorry mr definitive you found one video and therefore proved me wrong that every single heavy lifter uses perfect form..yeah...sure.
