Does anyone have a set of adjustable DBs that they love? Hate? What did you look for in a set? This seems like a good deal to me, with the stand for $299 and $2.95 shipping.

hi, I like making dumbbells the good old fashion way. Plus think about the savings. Look at these plates and dumbbell handles.

Hey jenng, that's exactly the set that I use (10-50 Lb). Love em! I like that the plates are all chromed, and the handles are slightly larger than a standard 1" grip, so they're a LOT more comfortable in your grip.

Yes, that's me in my avatar, and NO, I don't look like that today. That was taken back in Jan '07, and I lost most of that progress when I slacked off last year. I'm on my way back, tho, and I'm using that photo for inspiration.

They sell dumbbells at "Play it Again Sports" for pennies per pound.

Well, the rings were on my list, too. Is there not a place for DBs in Crossfit?

That does seem like a good deal, but then again most equipment seems alot cheaper in the US than here in the UK! I would say yes go ahead and get them, but if you are using a barbell in your workout aswell, it may work out better to have standard dumbbells so the weights can be swapped around.

TurboFit.com makes some great dumbbells if you're looking for very small increments (1.25 pounds). They go only so heavy, and therefore you may want to invest also in a set of powerblocks. I've had a set of powerblocks for 10 years and they are still like new. Conversely, I've known several people who bought the Nautilus/Bowflex spin-dial type and they've broken down (there is a piece of plastic that holds everything in place that eventually wears or breaks).

I think the convience that a powerblock (or something similar) gives you is not worth the extra cost but this is definately down to personal preference. By buying standard dumbells you have to put together yourself, you will have alot of money left over for other equipment plus this may also give you more workout options.

It's not simply an issue of preference, but space and use. I have about $50,000 of equipment in a space 400 sq. feet, and I train a number of clients that move quickly from exercise to exercise, whether using dumbbells, cables, or machines. For home trainees who want to dicker around with adjustable dumbbells, and who have little equipment in their home, then that is fine. Otherwise...

honestly you could just get spinlock dumbells, solid steel, for like 30 bucks and the weight to go with it for and extra 60 or so. that's a big saving right there and they work just as good if not better.

I like my power blocks...I do not need a hard grip, and they do not rip up your hands. They are very easy to use and are mush more solid then select tech by bowflex. My only regret besides expense is that I got a set that goes to 45 pounds... but I could get a heavier starting handle so it would go 15-60 pounds, so I think I am all set. -M

I have the SelectTech 552's (5# to 52.5#) and love them since they take up very little floor space, but I now wish that I had the bigger ones.
