ORIGINAL: jenng I voted Flat rate, since I am across the country from you. LOL. And I am sure my 10 lbs of protein I just ordered would cost me more than $6 to ship. $6 is about my max shipping comfort zone for ordering stuff online. Anything above that, and in my mind, I am paying too much and will be more likely to order from a B&M store. I also watch my ebay auctions carefully for shipping charges, so it's just one of my personal hang ups. But you are running a business and need to cover your expenses, too. Personally I prefer Fed Ex, because they deliver early here, and my UPS guy doesn't come til around 7pm. Weird since the distribution center is 2 mis from my house. I loathe the postal service. Thanks for the input. About a year ago (or a little longer) we used to offer a $4.95 flat rate. The problem is, we were losing A LOT of money on shipping. That $1 difference isn't much to customers but it is to us when you take 500 orders. We do not look to EVER profit on shipping. In fact, we almost always lose money on shipping. But we try to remain as competative as possible with what other sites are charging (about $6.00). We had a meeting with all the shippers this past week. FedEx is about the same price as UPS... but UPS charges us $7 a week for daily pickups... and FedEx charges $14 PER DAY for daily pickups ($98 per week). USPS charges $14 per day picup as well. We have USPS come by on Tuesdays and Fridays to pickup our customers APO/FPO orders and our HI/AK orders. But if our customers were willing to pay the additional cost to cover the daily pickups from FedEx, I would happily offer it as a shipping method . But would a customer pay $7 for FedEx Home Delivery and then pay another $2 to cover the daily pickup charge? We can't please everyone, but in gernally UPS is in the middle of pricing between USPS and FedEx... but they also offer some of the best services out of the other two.

Correct... a flat rate would save you money on anything over 1lb... and even then, depending on where you live, a flat rate could save you money even with order weighing less then a pound. Some ground shipments weight 1/2 a pound going to oddball cities can cost $7-$8.
