When I turned 50, I was an overweight, out of shape, diconditioned man with a nice pot belly hanging over my belt.  That was 13 years ago.  Then I got motivated.

Can we see a pic? of your before.

watching UFC or Ultimate Fighter does it for me, if it paid better, i would wanna be a UFC fighter, thats just me. buuuuttt, if you want motivation, for me, making fun of myself works...lol, kinda depressing sometimes tho, but it gets the job done.

I think my biggest motivation right now is not only knowing that this will help me to look better for the ladies and feel better about my self, but also in the long run be good for my health. Another big thing that has probably the most to do with me being motivated would be that my family has had problems with overwieght, heart problems, diabeties and many other different health conditions and I just don't want to have to deal with those if any way possible. I know its genetics but maybe I can keep it off while I'm still able.

What keeps me going is knowing I'm healthy. I used to eat fast food all the time with friends, had a nice belly on me and whatnot. Now I'm confident in the way I look and know that I'm doing myself a huge favour for the future. Most people let go after their 30's and just knowing I won't be like that makes me very happy.
Also another huge motivating factor is seeing these morbidly obese people or just regular fat people. It sounds rude but I've come to dislike and not respect these people. Also seeing ripped, lean people, like those on this board keep me going everyday.
Staying focus and mentally picturing the body I'm working towards helps too.

Wow, really interesting stuff here. So I'll share too.

I started working out when I turned 16. Also, you could see me and say I'm normal, not fat, not skinny, but really I had a belly (still do some of it). So, my friend suggested that I join extreme fitness and I did. We went everyday non-stop for like a month, I liked it a lot. But since the gym was 40 minute walk away I started losing the motivation to going, so I stopped going and stretched the number of workouts from 1-5 per month. But then, the summer came and everyone likes to swim, so there goes the time when you wish to be pumped up and big, but thats not the case. So I saw my friends some were skinny but thats better than being fat with a belly, so that gave me motivation to go back to gym again and start to work out. Couple weeks later I found the Max-Ot program and started doing that and saw some great results in strength, so I kept on doing that. My gym membership expired 2 months ago, but since I'm motivated to keep building muscle and shape I turn the music up (some from old Rocky movies, "The Eye of the Tiger" and "No easy way out"), and I do intense push-ups, then sit-ups. Now, I'm going to use my bro's membership to go and keep building all that strength back and muscle.

i think motivation is a gift in life, to me its either the switch is on or its not

over a year back i was watching tv an worlds strongest man was on, an it was right there staring me dead in the face

so it was a few simple questions - do you want to work for most your life in a job you really dont like? or do you wanna do what you wanna do?

i quit college, got a part time job that involved lots of strongman type lifting, an started training in the gym - ive hit countless pr's since then an gained over 60lbs

i love strongman, an i feel i can and will go professional / make a living from it someday - this song pretty much tells the story http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdMg3aknCCM

You can have passion or don't have it, but building motivation is possible. For example, lets take movies, when you watch some fighting movie like Rocky and you hear that progressive music playing, you see him pushing himself further trying to achieve his goal, you want to do the same right away, because you got motivated and in average person that motivation disappeares the next day. Same goes for the movie Annapolis, I don't know how many of you like it or not, but thats not the case, the idea is that in the movie the guy started to practise hard to achieve his goal and that is what gets people motivated. Now, if people could actually keep that motivation by playing same music or just thinking of pushing themselves further that should help stay motivated. Usually people stay motivated when they see results which is why they keep training, but to see results you need time, so be patient and good luck! :D

I like gym buddies or I like to compete with friends... Its always about who lifts the most with the best form with me and my friends. After that it turned into who can get the biggest the fastest... Then it just became a life style the natural endorphines released from working out is what keeps me going.
