August 24 cardio
I didn't fill out the RPE's right.  Grrrrr.  The rest phases were more like "2's" not "6's".

Friday! TGIF! August 25 workout.
I felt strong.  I felt manly.  GRRRRRRRRR!
Plus, I got hit on a lot last night.  Hee hee hee. . . .including by the partner . . . grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!  There must be some good stuff going on.

BTW, I took the cat's advice and went to my first tanning session (yesterday).  Don't ask the nice ladies behind the counter "what lotion do you recommend?"  I didn't know there was anywhere or any company that would even consider charging $60 for a 12 oz bottle!

They weren't the greatest professionals.  I filled out my "skin type survey" ("Type 2", whatever that means), and then they ignored it and didn't explain what that meant.  They plopped me in a bed ("Level 1") and toasted me for 15 minutes.  I did tan, and also burned slightly in a few spots.  The burns made the leg exercises uncomfortable!!!

August 25 food.

This log is pure fiction.  Well, part fiction.  I ate much more.  I was ravenous all day after my workout, and of course, I had my recovery shake, not listed.  I got lazy.  I was exhausted by the time I got to this.

Most of my extra food was good stuff although I submit that there were a few peanut M&M's involved...

Check-in stats

Weight:  185 (total of 7 lbs since the beggining)
BF: 16-17% *argh* --approximately 1% reduction?
chest:  40.5'--increase of 0.3-0.5"
biceps:  11.8"--increase, if any, of 0.3"
calves:  14.75" -- see note below -- +0.25"
thighs:  22.6" approximately +0.2"
waist:  41" no change
abdomen:  39"ish (hardest part for me to measure, for some reason)--down 0.5" to 0.75".

The calf measurement was a shocker.  It is the clearest change.  I think between observing how it "works" during its workout might give me a clue how I can maximize muscle stimulation for myself.

The waist reduction is slow, but I guess kind of sure?  Pants that were tight are slightly less tight, but still not where I want them.

The partner claims dramatic improvement overall.  He doesn't believe that I've only lost 0.5" from the waist, he says it looks much better than that.  Even though my chest has gone up just 0.5", the tone or something makes me look like I have something of a chest again.  Shirts are looking better.

Some of the weights are too low.  I'm working on that.  The worst offenders are probably those for arms.  I'm booting those guys up even more than what the program says next week.  However, the weights for the leg presses are just fine!

I'm also concerned about my back's progress, but I think I'm just impatient.  We'll see how the serious multi-joint lifting phase goes (in a week or two).  This week I added some of Nilsson's ab exercises (those that target ab muscles other than that of the standard program).  They feel weird right now (they are strange, in any case).  We'll see if they help or not.

I need to think about my diet on lifting days.  Friday's post is informative, and I experienced the similar thing on Wednesday.  Is my body crying for nutrition it needs, or what it wants to maintain my current (unsatisfactory) body composition?  I am tempted to add 500 good calories on those days . . . . any thoughts out there?  The recovery shake after the workout correlates with less fatigue and aches in the worked out muscles (although this morning my back and legs are a little sore)

Sleep quality is much better than from just a month ago.  I'm not as energized as I had hoped, but it's improving, too.

Muscles going up up up and fat is going down down down

Do you use a machine to measure your bodyfat?
Because i did find a machine that i considered accurate, and it wasnt...it turned out it just estimated your bodyfat to your height and weight, because my friend as a joke put his hand above my head, and the lazer detects the first sign of flesh, and made me 7'1" 150lbs, and it said my BF% was 0.01% haha!

Right now it says im at 18-19% BF which is blatant rubbish, i found a new machine though that does it accurately.

I dont know if its me being dumb here
but didnt you say you had a 39.4" waist, and now you have a 41" waist?

Either way keep up the good work

Thanks!

Should be the other direction on the waist (the program calls the part that I'm trying to reduce "abdomen", so I'll try to be better on that!).  What are you using to analyze body fat?

August 26 food

Check out my cheat meal . . . a trip to Chili's with the family.  I let myself have my first dessert in a long time (if you discount that cupcake from a couple of weeks ago).  Anyway, it was awesome, BUT, when I went home and found out it was 1390 f-in calories . . . damn...

08-28 workout.  YAHOO!  I felt like a beast!

I slowed down all my reps.  Damn, that was challenging--even the lighter weights . . . but, having seen my calve grow a lot, and knowing how I usually work it out, I'm wondering if this will help at this point put on some size.  Anyway, ME EAT VEGGILANTES FOR DINNER NOW!  GRrrrrrrunnnnT!

Yes, that's me in my avatar, and NO, I don't look like that today. That was taken back in Jan '07, and I lost most of that progress when I slacked off last year. I'm on my way back, tho, and I'm using that photo for inspiration.
