Workout, 8/14, part II You'll notice that the workouts have changed from circuit training to just supersets. This is the first of the "mass-building" weeks, but not with all the classic multijoint exercises (although bench press is in there, but no squats--they're coming in about three weeks). Some of the exercises I had to change for lack of equipment at the gym, and I usually went the dumbell route when I could. The next three weeks, I believe, consist of alternating this and the next lifting workout (posted on Wednesday of this week). Cardio starts intervals, although this week wasn't kind to cardio for me (you'll see!). By this time, I had lost about 5 lbs. Weigh-in occurs every morning after I pee, but before coffee or anything else. I usually weigh myself just in my skivvies. There is about a 1-2 lb fluctuation, but I'm clearly at my lowest at this point during the day (or right before my second-to-last meal). I figure this is when water weight is at its lowest. I imagine during the next few weeks, weight loss will slow, but fat loss shouldn't too much. The idea of the program is to add a little muscle while still burning fat--which we know is not conventional thinking, but usually wishful thinking (unless a beginner). We'll see. I've taken off about 1/4" off my waist. My goal is an inch a month. But I also realize that the fat around the belly is last to go, so I'm trying to be patient. On the other hand, the food is mostly good, with the modifications that I'm putting in. I'm used to six meals a day now (previously used to only 4 or 5), and I'm drinking water like crazy. I love the fizzy stuff with a bit of lime or lemon squeezed in. My partner is also enjoying the program so far, although he still misses dessert. Another modification that I felt was really important for me for recovery reasons was substituting a snack with an after-workout EnduRoxR4 recovery drink: Supplement Facts Serving Size: 2 Rounded Scoops (75g) 2 Scoops makes 12 fl. oz. Servings Per Container: 14 Amount Per Serving % Daily Value* Calories 270 Calories From Fat 10 Total Fat 1g 1%* Saturated Fat 0g 0% Cholesterol 10mg 3% Total Carbohydrate 52g 17%* Dietary Fiber 0g 0% Sugars 40g ** Protein 13g Vitamin C 470mg 780% Vitamin E 400 I.U. 1330% Calcium 100mg 10% Magnesium 240mg 60% Sodium 220mg 9% Potassium 120mg 3% L-Glutamine 420mg ** *Percent Daily Values are based on a 2,000 calorie diet. **Daily values not established. This has helped me with recovery, or so there seems to be a correlation. I'm not nearly as gym-fatigued this week. Thumbnail Image
