For the past two months, a single word, written in black marker has occupied the dry erase board hanging in my home gym: AGAIN I'm getting so comfortable with the idea of "AGAIN" that I'm considering having it carved out of FoamCor so I can mount it over my Smith machine in 4" tall block letters. That one word has come to mean so much to me over the past ten years, that I think it's only appropriate to enshrine it in my training lexicon. Some of my more unfortunate applications of that simple arrangement of five letters have included: "So, you're giving up AGAIN." "Well look at that. Summer's here and once AGAIN, you sat on your ass all winter instead of getting in shape for it." "Going light AGAIN, are we? Sure. Why not. One more unchallenging workout is better than none at all." When you're beating up on yourself, "AGAIN" can be a damned ugly word. But, at the same time, it can be both an affirmation and a mandate -and a sobering one at that. These days, I'm finding new applications for that word, including: "See that? That's the eight reps you keep telling yourself you couldn't do -and you just did them. Now... AGAIN!" "Forty little minutes... forty minutes that you could have pissed away in front of your computer, or in front of the TV, watching Law & Order... But not today. Today, you put petty procrastination in it's place AGAIN." And, of course, through clenched teeth, and with veins popping out all over my neck, chest, arms and thighs, at the bottom of every rep, "AGAIN!!!" I just knocked out another killer chest workout, again. My pecs are so pumped, they jiggle like freaking boobs when I walk -which would concern me if they didn't tense up harder than a raw potato every time I flex them, LOL. I can see those tasty little striations all the way up and down the crease at my sternum again. Al my triceps feel tight and sore as a mo-fo, again. And in three short days, I will hit them... again.

You know, I'm sittin' here, looking at my thighs and thinking to myself, "These are turning out to be some beefy beeatches, mang!" And the more I stare at them, and marvel at the discernable outward sweep my Tensor Fascia Lata and Vastus Lateralis, the more I get to thinking, "wouldn't it be cool if I blew these suckers up another three inches? Wouldn't it be badass if could get my Adductor Longus and Hamstrings so thick and beefy that I am forced to buy baggy-fit jeans from now on because any other style will just cut off the circulation to my legs, and -what the hell- baggy is going to be the new snug-fit for me anyway? Wouldn't it just be freaky, funky, make-you-do-a-double-take copacetic if I got that teardrop blockiness and razor sharp veins to show all the time, even when I'm not pumped up?" Yeah. I like the sound of that. In fact, I'm really looking foreward to sitting here six months from now, posting another entry like this, cogitating on how cool it will be to add another three inches on top of the three I'm about to score. Today is leg day, and I have a date with destiny. I think I hear an endorphine and testosterone cyclone brewing somewhere down the hall from where I'm sitting. I better go check it out...

Off and on and training but not dieting properly almost 3 years. Funny how that works, huh? We spend years giving it all a half-assed effort, only to discover when we really get serious, that we haven't been training at all I dabbled on and off for fifteen years (actually, it was like a 4 months on, 3 years off kinda thing, LOL!). The little light bulb finally came on in Late July 2005, and I've been blasting away ever since. That's when I finally put it all together that nothing but tireless persistence and repetition were the only things that were ever going to give me what I was looking for. That's also why my sig only indicates lean mass gained since August 2005 -because prior to that, I never made any deliberate gains quote:

ORIGINAL: No Quarter I remember vegg's introduction post you've come a long way man. Are you taking anything interesting supplements-wise?How many calories are you getting above maintenance? He he he he, thanks dude! And you know, as much work as this is, and as much as I have to keep reminding myself to do it every single day, I feel like I just posted that introduction yesterday. Time flies. Make the most of it! Right now, the only supps I'm using are Whey protein, Creatine, Glutamine, and a multi-vit. Calories? I have no idea. Waaaay more than necessary, I can tell you that much I actually lost a little of my shred on this latest bulking binge; but the good news is, the fat seems to have deposited on my ass, where it was always badly needed anyway, HA HA HA! quote:

Don't give in to "You know, one missed cardio session isn't going to kill my progress..." Yuo've gotta fight to keep yourself on track in this game. But don't just fight to drag yourself through it -fight to make yourself love it! 'Cause when you love working out and getting jacked up, you can't help but look and feel better

That fight is one i'm losing right now... treadmills make me sick, and spinning doesn't fit into my schedule and there is 8 inches of snow outside right now. Luckily, i'm still dropping bodyfat due to... well, an excess of it. DAMN YOU SNOW!!!

Speaking of losing... Today is February 3rd, 2007. Phase III of my "Toothpicks to Timbers" journey is officially concluded! The final tally is in: 164.2 lbs, 6.6% body fat So I missed my goal by 8/10 of a pound. I'm a failure. I suck. HAAAAAA HA HA HA HA HA!!! Just kidding, of course. I was going to post a final batch of photos here, along with all the final measurements, but I realized that doing so will invite a whole bunch of feedback and what I really want to do is lock this journal and start fresh for Phase IV. So bear with me as I update the sig file and take care of a few things around here... I should have the New & Improved Veggilante Phase IV Journal with new goals, and a whole new format up and running shortly
