No, I'd just stick with three. I think the one time I went over three was my last week on the program, so I went ahead and tried for five.

That sounds about right. I believe week 8 was my last week on the program before I reset it. Follow the program and you'll be good to go!

Yes, if I remember correctly I did 8 weeks and then went on a scheduled vacation for a week. So then I reset the program when I came back from vacation. Oh, and 4 weeks of progress is a 20 pound gain on your lifts! Not too shabby!

wow yea 20 lb. in 4 weeks is really impressive. that would be 4 weeks of progress for my squat and deadlift but my other lifts only go up about 2.5-3lb. a week. still good i guess tho

I guess it all depends on what percent you increase your lifts every week. But once you add up four weeks, then you have a good gain. And there's a good chance that you'll be able to go longer than eight weeks before you reset the program.

I have been lifting, I just haven't posted my last couple workouts yet. Saturdays workout consisted of legs and triceps, with mixed results. I don't have the log in front of me, but it was something like this: Squats 8@135 8@160 8@180 1@200 Leg Curls 8@66 8@88 8@100 One legged Leg Ext 8@44 8@44 Close-grip Bench Press 8@135 8@145 8@150 One-arm Tricep Extension 8@66 8@77 This got off to a rough start during squats. I don't have a lot of decent equipment to work my legs, so I usually go with 5 sets of squats. But after one set on my fourth set, I felt a very small twinge in my lower back. It was odd, because my form felt fine and it was a weight that I've done a hundred times. And I didn't feel anything until I was standing upright. But I thought (for once) that I'd play it safe and rack the weight. So instead of 5 sets of squats, I basically did three light sets and then went with leg curls and leg extensions. Triceps went fine. I definitely get a better pump going with 8 reps as opposed to 5. My back tightened up during the evening, and really tightened up over night. I woke up Sunday and I could barely walk. Even today, on Tuesday, it's still sore, although much better than it was. If I sit for too long it tightens up and takes a little while to loosen up.

Last night it was time for a chest workout (and shoulders). My back still hurt, and it was a little painful to bench. But I got through it, and my back was actually feeling better towards the end of the workout. On another note - it was in the upper 30's today! It's sad when the temperature warms up by 40 degrees.....and it's still around freezing! Bench Press: 8@140 8@160 8@170 Incline Bench: 8@135 8@150 8@155 Flat Flyes 8@45 8@50 Seated Cable Press 8@50 8@60 Upright Rows 8@100 8@100 It was a decent workout as I slowly increase my weight back up on bench. I never work shoulders too much when I work them with chest, as my chest workout tends to burn them out. I hadn't done seated cable press in awhile. I'll have to up the weight next time I do them.

Wow, it's been forever since I've posted! Sorry for the extremely long delay. How about this weather? It's FINALLY in the 60's! Believe it or not, I have been lifting regularly except for last week, which I took off (more on this later). I've continued to alternate between 8 reps for a week or two, and then a week of 5 reps. I make sure to keep the core lifts in my routine, but I switch up isolation exercises to whatever I feel like doing. It's been going pretty well. I haven't been making any big gains, but for the most part I've kept my strength throughout my cut. Speaking of which, I'm no weighing in at around 197 pounds. So I've lost 20 pounds thus far. Looks like I have another 10 pounds before I get to where I want to be. I haven't started doing any cardio yet (yes, I'm slacking). I've lost all my weight thus far just by adjusting calories. But now that it's warming up it should be easier (motivational wise) to get some cardio into my routine. The last week-10 days has been ROUGH. On 3/7/07 my wife (25 years old, non-smoker) started having chest pains. They got worse throughout the day and she woke up on the 8th in a ton a pain. We went to a Prompt Care that morning and they ran X-Rays and did an EKG, but everything checked out okay. The doctor said it was probably something with her muscle, gave her pain medication, and we went home (then I went to work). A few hours later she called me at work and said the pain was getting worse (this is after taking the pain medication too). She called her home doctor who said she should go to the ER to get checked out, because Prompt Care must have missed something. So we spent the next 6 hours in the ER. They ran some blood tests and one of her blood levels was extremely high (the normal range for the test is under 500, her score was over 3800 - there are a few possible causes for this, but it's a sign of blood clots). So they did a Cat Scan and, sure enough, she had (and still has) a blood clot in her upper arm, and one in each lung!! After running through possible causes of blood clots about a million times, it turns out she only has one risk factor.........birth control pills! Yes, my wife is the one person in a million who has a reaction to birth control pills. The doctors and nurses were real surprised, they said that people who develop blood clots because of birth control pills are usually 35 or older and smokers. She had actually switched brands about two months ago (after finishing the breastfeeding period for our son) to Yasmine. She seemed to be fine on Orthotricyclin. Anyways, that night was real bad - there was a time late that night where I actually thought she was going to die (Vicatin had no affect on her pain, and she could barely breath). Our nurse rocked though, and she shot her up with enough drugs to make an elephant high. She spent the week at the hospital and she's still on blood thinners and pain pills - but she's off the more expensive drugs (she had to give herself a shot of Lovenox twice a day - at $100 per shot), so that's a good thing. But it was a hectic, exhausting time - not to mention that her mom was staying at our house watching our 17 month old. So I was driving home 2-3 times per day (30 minutes one way) trying to take care of everything. So now you may be thinking, wow, that was rough! But it gets even more crazy. On about day 5 of my wife's stay at the hospital, she was joined in the same hospital....by my mom! She had also been sick with the flu (supposedly) for a week, and by the 12th she could barely even walk. So she spent the day in the ER, and she just got released on the 20th. So I had my wife on the 5th floor (heart and pulminary) and my mom on the 3rd floor at first (ICU) and then in a different building of the same hospital for intermediate care. It turns out that my mom has Diabetes, and has probably had it for a few years. But she had an infection, and the flu, which made her not eat for a couple days, which made her Diabetes flare up so her blood sugar levels were over 800 (normal range is around 100)! Yes....crazy, crazy times. So I didn't lift for a week, and didn't sleep much for a week. But...it did help with my cut!
