Multivitamin - Wednesday, June 21, 2006 10:15 AM
Hi am am new to multivitamins. What are some good multivitamins to take for working out? I'm thinking about GNC's Mega Men, but its a little pricy so I might go with their Solotron instead, do you think Mega Men really worth the extra $$? The only thing Mega men really has over the Solotron is fruit/vegitable powder.  And when is the best time to take a multivitmin- in the morning or right after your workout? Any help/advice is greatly appreciated!

IMO Centrum Performance looks good... I'm looking into
NOW Adam Superior Men's Multiple Vitamins! (It contains a lot of Vitamin A (not good) and it doesn’t contain Iron so I might just choose the Centrum over this!... We'll see!)

What do you guys think of these 2???

Thanks! :)

When you hijack something you don't ask!...

I mentioned the two MV's I thought were good and asked what others thought of my choices!... That's not hijacking a thread!

Good Luck!

Hey Dude;

I've been taking MHP-Activite Multi's., for quite a while and IMO are great. They are geared for the sports minded individual. Have a great vitamin profile along with Anabolase, which optimizes the function of food for max performance and has a high ORAC for muscle recovery and antioxidant support. I paid 20 bucks for 120 tabs. I take 4 tabs per day, 2 with breakfast and 2 with dinner.

Personally, I like to use capsules better than caplets/tablets. But, for a multi-vitamin/multi-mineral supplement to be optimally effective it needs to be in a tablet form.

Peace

Why's that?

When one swallows a capsule it is dissolved in the stomach and the contents are released. The contents then travel to the small intestine and are absorbed. This is usually not a problem. A multi-vitamin however, contains many delicate compounds that can be easily destroyed by the stomach acids. If a multi-vitamin is in a capsule form, many of the nutrients will never make it to the small intestine for absorption and utilization.

Tablets incorporate a hard form (similar to MHP-Activite, et al.) and may also have a specialized coating so that it will pass through the stomach and be released in the small intestine unharmed and be able to formulate a fully functional and fully absorbable multi-vitamin/multi-mineral that supposedly is far superior to capsule formulae.

Hehe!... Damn Hydrochloric Acid!… Now I gotta choke on those huge NOW Adam tablets instead of taking the soft veg-caps... Life goes on!!!

Makes sense!... Thanks for the thorough explanation!

(PS. - I always thought the caps are better than the tabs since there were some posts in the bodybuilding.com forums about tabs not getting absorbed properly!... Information changes!... Once again thanks for your advice!... I'll continue searching and report back with results!)
