Help With Supplement - Monday, June 05, 2006 7:03 PM
Well first off, I would like to add that I am new to these forums. Hey guys  Well Im a 15 y/o male soon to be 16 and i read alot about what you guys said on prohormones and such. So my goals are to get more muscle and to overall get bigger, but im looking to get rid of a little of the fat that i have. Money is no issue at the moment and so far, Ive been thinking about just purchasing muscle milk and maybe even consider trying leukic, what do you guys think, or reccomend for me? Thanks alot.

How many calories a day are you getting right now? Do you know how many you need?
If not, check out the top of the nutrition forum for the post about calorie calculators. Use the info there to find out how many calories a day you'll need to grow muscle.
My advice- Get your diet in shape first, work your way to getting that amount of calories in each day- You'll see muscle gains just from that, if your diet's not already at that point.
Worry about supps after you've got your eating habits down.

RE: Help With Supplement - Tuesday, June 06, 2006 1:33 PM
I used the calculator and based on the Harris-Benedict formula for gaining mass, I need 2587-2700 calories. My bodyfat is estimated to be 11.52 % using the U.S. Navy body fat formula, or 7.69 % using the formula developed by the YMCA. Im looking to make big muscle gains, and im looking to get bigger in terms of mass, although I want to lose a little fat and replace with muscle so I can look cut up  and have that six pack and nice ripped look at a bigger size. Anything at all you guys reccomend? Whether it be supplement or my diet, Im all ears. Thanks again.

PS- Im still thinking about that muscle milk and leukic also through the calculators I found that I need 133 grams of protein in my diet. Im a 5'4 (shortish) male weighing in at 138 lbs.

Supplement means "the extra"
You supplement diet and training with some extra...

Muscle milk is a meal repleacement to use when you can not get to a meal.
Protein is to help you make sure you have enough in certain meals where you might have trouble and to get a little protein pre and post workout to spare muscle...

Meal replacements and protein are really very helpful!
Start with a multi and 6 meals a day...add Meal replacements and protein and you are on your way!

You really do not need anything else!

In order to fit 6 meals into a day, I would literally have to eat every 3 hours.... Anyone care to help me make a list of what to eat when, kind of like a meal/supplement/mrp strategy? Keep in mind that at 15 alot of my day 7:30-3 is spent at school whereas I wake up at 6AM and sleep at around 11PM. Oh and Danmirage thanks alot for the help you've given me so far, it's appreciated

Look in the gaining mass link.

Any meal where you can not get a perfect meal (like school meals)...use a pure protein powder.
Any time you can not get to a meal, use a MRP (Meal Replacement Powder - not protein powder) in a shaker bottle..and have celery & carrot sticks with it.

See the link on MRPs in the gaining mass link...

Do your best, don't worry if you are not perfect!

Post any challenges you have!

MRP's would be good to take to school in a shaker... you could drink it in between classes. There is a master list of foods to eat in the nutrition forum at the top. Check out the new recipe forum too... there's some great tasting stuff in there. i'd say its about 70% diet 20% training and then 10% supps.... concentrate on the priorities.... diet is the hardest part of bodybuilding.... lifting is the fun part..... supplements just aren't as important but they will help you bust through a plataue (sp?)

at school i just eat my own **** that my dad makes for me in the morning, beef+rice+veggies and teriyaki chicken+rice+broccoli, both taste pretty good, just gets old but best meals at school IMO. Both chicken and beef are lean.

I better start bringing lunch using those recipies in the forum, school lunch seems to be a calorie bomb mystery. I almost feel like asking a lunch lady for nutrition facts just to see if they scatter in fear.

RE: Help With Supplement - Thursday, June 08, 2006 2:25 PM
So should I start bulking up then? I only weigh in at like 138 now. and im at 11% bodyfat by navy standards and 7% by YMCA standards. Still looking to try that muscle milk but now that im looking to bulk up I noticed this http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2133629&cp&change_search=products&keywords=1850+weight+gainer&y=0&searchId=5647207662&x=0&parentPage=search
its a weight gainer that i can use to stack up those calories, which I can drink during lunch with celery and carrot sticks as well as a chicken sandwhich and then i would need a good MRP to help me to get in 6 meals a day. During school my lunch is about 12:30 so if possible help me to schedule what to take and when. I also hope to get pics up soon so you guys can tell me what I need to work on. Appreciate the good help, keep it up guys

RE: Help With Supplement - Thursday, June 08, 2006 3:00 PM
First of all that is no good..only 18 servings per container
Cost per serving is 2$ and up!
1.5 cups in 12 ounces of water
Cals 925
Fat 8.45
Carbs 177
Protein 36

You will certainly fatten up with that!!!
It is filled with crap!

Go here and look at the one's I recommend:
http://www.discussbodybuilding.com/MRP/m_109098/tm.htm

First, they are not filled with crap.
Second the cost per serving is more digestable. under $1.
Third, they taste ok.

Muscle milk is not very optimal...

If you eat every 3 hours or as close as you can as recommended in the gaining mass link a few post of mine back...you will be doing great!

7am - Breakfast
10 - Meal replace
12:30 - Lunch
3:30 - Meal
6:30 - Dinner
9:30 - Meal

Look do-able?
