Punching metal? - Wednesday, May 31, 2006 9:43 PM
A few of my friends punch metal, they say it's fun, but it's mainly to make their punch better, I've done it a few times.. It is sortta fun, but will it really strengthen my punch?

Someone always has to write on the walls "Mike was here". But then someone else puts an arrow and it says "Mike is a ****got". So Mike comes back to check it out, "What the hell?! I was here but not as a ****got!"

it shall more than likely mangle your hand, your punch is strengthened by the force your arm delivers it at, i dont see how punching a harder material than a punch bag does that, next time use some simple common sense and logic to deliver yourself an answer.
However, doing pushups on a carpet or floor does make the skin on the knuckles tougher, meaning when you hit someone theyl be less liable to bleed

Well lets see.  If your punching the metal hard enough I don't think you would be doing it for some time....  Why do you think punching bags are soft and you wear puching gloves etc....

Your gonna hurt your hand if you do that alot.  And punching something harder wont make ur punches better.  Buy a punching bag and some gloves.

You and your friends are idiots.

Get a damn heavy bag and do some boxing training.  Then you will punch better.

Punching metal is just going to end up with a broken hand.

I hope this thread was a joke.  Or i hope you take the short bus.

ive heard of people kicking bamboo as to dull the pain when they fight. and i guess your friends are taking that theory to punching. while your hands will become less sensitive to pain. it wont make your punch "better" per se. but it is a good way to mess up your wrist and hand. sounds like you need more intelligent friends.
Let the pain come over you, but never overcome you.

You do not build strength from repeating a motion against inpenetrable object. Your friends are idiots and let them break there hands. If you want a stronger punch train your triceps. Do close grip bench, push press, dips, diamond pushups, pull ups. Do that for a month and tell me how much stronger your punch is.

I am a red belt in hapkido. The best way to make your punch stronger... well there is two ways, one I wouldn't reccomend without a sensei/teacher. But, start doing pushups on your fists in your chest workout, better if you have a plate on your back, you will notice after two months your fists become like rocks, the cartilage strengthens in your hands resulting in a rock hard bunch.

The other way is a type of hand conditioning that could permananently cripple your hands if you do even one rep wrong, so I will not divulge it.
