if you didnt know arnold worked out for about four hours a day, six days a week workout each muscle in his body in two days. in other words he had a two day split. and only took off sundays.  not very many people could make gains working out for four hours, then training the same muscles two day later....

its all in his book.

Considering working out was his job...the guy had a rough schedule : eat like a damn horse, sleep like a lazy cat and twice a day..and get a nice tan at the beach...and sleep some more.

He was actually doing that work-out when he wasn't on steroids in his youth. He won major competitions before he touched steroids.

Steriods were looked at T0TALLY different in the 70's.  They were considered almost like supplements.  They weren't even illegal. In fact, steriods didn't become a Schedule III narcotic until around 1990-1991.  Its no coincidence that the supplment industry really started to explode around that time because prior to that you could buy roids at your neighborhood gym and they weren't that expensive.  But once they became illegal the price (and consequences if caught) went way up.  So a lot of guys turned to supplements instead.
For the record, I'm not a fan of roids and never took them.

If you can find a copy of "Mr.Olympia Training Encyclopedia" that has the routines of all of the Mr. Olympia's
I came across it about 8 years ago in my local library, and it was a few years old at that time.
You may be able to order it from the usual web stores that sell books. "Joe Weider's Ultimate Bodybuilding" might have it.
And yeah Franco Columbo was one of the best, I think he appeared in some of the earliest "World's Strongest Man" competitions....dudes supposed to have short knotty biceps but they were mega huge

yeah, thats not really that impressive for soemone on steroids though.

im not sure he was this strong as in pumping iron he was doing under 500lbs an it shown him doing only 3 reps, as well as 315 for i think 9 reps

if true however, his 1rm would be roughly 665-670lbs, which is pretty close to the current world record, an well over 3 x bodyweight, as he was under 200lbs - what do you consider impressive for someone on steroids?

So here's the deal!  If you are planning on doing Franco Columbo's workout rutine you need to take some things into account.  Franco Columbo did use steroids, and this helped him become a stronger lifter and a better body builder.  If you are not doing steroids you will not be able to keep up with Franco's rutine.

It's not a matter of how hard you work, I'm sure you work really hard.  It's not a matter of how hard you want to work to do his rutine, because i'm sure you can work even harder.  But no matter how hard you work you will never be able to keep up with a rutine that was made for people taking steroids unless you are taking steroids!  The big key here is recovery!!!  One of the biggest advantages of steroid use is being able to recover more effectively from workouts that would normally cause someone to overtrain.  When you design a workout program with the intention that you are taking steroids, you will add alot more intensity and volume to your workout, more than you would put into a normal workout rutine.  If you are not taking steroids, don't even bother trying to do a workout rutine designed for someone who is taking steroids.

Franco took steroids.  Franco took steroids before he started body building to improve his preformance during powerlifting (not all steroids make you big).
